I've seen some extreme rightwing BS, but I think this one takes the cake. Clearly the GOP wants the country to collapse so they can swoop in and reassemble the pieces to reflect their own ideology and satiate their lust for power. America has gotten too stupid to exist as a democracy.

1. How does one successfully counter something like this?

The truth doesn't seem to carry enough sensationalism, but who wants to push back by using the same kind of deceitful tactics? I wouldn't know where to start except with the truth, and that doesn't seem to work.

8. By passing a bold jobs creation plan, a universal health plan that takes on the insurance industry .

and Big Pharma, taking on the Wall Street and corporate tycoons, defending our civil liberties, ending the Iraq/Afghanistan wars and by functioning as a real populist political party that defends and supports working people against the tiny minority that controls this nation.

The self-proclaimed "moderates" and establishment "liberals" in the Democratic Party have demonstrated amazing weakness and appear to be incapable of governing in the interests of the people.

This has Teabag Glenn Beck Fox spoor all over it. It plays like a preview for a new HBO miniseries. I'm becoming more convinced there's big money out there pushing for a wingnut uprising. Someone up there wants violence.

3. I agree.

Unfortunately, I truly believe this is all leading to an eventual rightwing "uprising." Sadly, it will be an uprising against mostly fabricated evils, a socialist/communist power grab that doesn't even exist. It can only result in disaster for America. The Repubs are dying to get back in control and to continue the job of making America the world's evil empire.

4. I don't have much to add

except I think this goes a bit beyond Repubs taking power again - beyond the now bogus two party system. If there is a manufactured populist uprising it will open the door to a police state response and a new normal of diminished civil and constitutional rights. Authoritarians love rebellion. They live for that shit. Gives 'em a chance to ply their trade and prove the legitimacy of their claim to power. Also, lots of new government contracts for the burgeoning security industry.

These teabags are the perfect Marks.

They won't divide the Democratic base, and they won't attract much Idependent voters with the "We're coming for YOU!" extremism. Give them the rope, they'll hang themselves just fine.

7. I wish that were true, demwing, but...

...your belief just isn't consistent with experience. The rightwingers have never been so radical and yet they are expected to (and will most likely achieve) win big in the upcoming election. They've been attracting a lot of independent voters in the name of "down with government." The Nazi's were given plenty of rope and it wasn't themselves that they ended up hanging. Fear is a powerful weapon and the only anecdote for fear is truth, and the truth hasn't been working so well against the onslaught of lies and neo-con propaganda.
