11. K&R
O.K., I'm new here and this is, doubtless, a stupid question, but what does K&R mean?

3. I will continue to drive Toyotas regardless of these witch hunts
being carried out by the government because US automanufacturers can't build quality cars. My current Tacoma has never had anything wrong with it since the day I bought it. My last one had 300,000 miles on it before I sold it. The guy who bought it has now put 75,000 miles on it. With a GM car, it would have beeb dead at 60,000 miles. You can bend the door panels of your GM car with your little finger.

4. "Witch Hunts"?
Please, please tell me that was a joke. Then again, I'm not sure I want to know.

PS---I drive a Camry (non-recall era). It's a great car, but that would never lead me to reject facts and evidence to the point where I would describe this very serious situation as a "witch hunt". That would be laughable.

5. To each his own. The evidence is partially true, partially manufactured.

6. I agree. According to Rush Limbaugh, that was the case...

8. I have no use for Rush Limbaugh or Cenk. Both are into constant
self-aggrandizement to help pump up ratings and earn more money. I base my decisions on reading reports and drawing my own conclusions based on those reports and the reaction of various parties to said reports. In this modern world, I trust NO ONE, prefering to defer to my own analytical powers, be they right or be they wrong. I have had great success with Toyotas. Even if I drove into my garage door later this afternoon as a result of a sticking gas pedal, I would still continue to buy Toyotas. Mistakes happen...that is the nature of the beast when profit is the sole motivator of everybody and everything. And what is my alternative? GM? Ford? Maybe a plastic Saturn? I can't afford a BMW or a Mercedes. And, lastly, now that I am retired, I doubt that I'll buy another car. No more cars. No more houses. No more church. No more computers. No more voting. Starting to feel better and better every day.:-)

16. Any part abstracted from the US Government subsequent to the
nominal massage. I did that crap for them for 30 years, both in and out of the military. Not interested in continuing this thread. Based on what has been uncovered without even trying over the last 20 years, some of you folks simply amaze me.

17. So... you have nothing specific, outside of a paranoid fear of Teh Guvmint
Hokay, then. I can see why you have no interest in continuing the thread. See you on the 9/11 forum. :eyes:

7. Well you can look at it two ways
there have been some 2200 reported events. 34 Fatalities. That's certainly serious and should not be dismissed. On the other hand there have been 100's of millions of times where nothing abnormal has taken place.

There seems to be a number of circumstances so far, not reproduced in the lab, leading to the sudden excursion. It could be some sort of sympathetic series of algorythms, something like a harmonic. The proposed solution of bringing the engine to its idle speed when the brake pedal is touched seems like a reasonable fix.

There have been a number of posts on here pointing that the drivers should be more aware and know what to do. In the mid 1960's there was a book out on auto design that talked about ergonomics, extolled the virtue of radial tires, anti-lock brakes and communication between drivers. There was also the suggestion that by making cars safer an opposing effect would happen because drivers would lose the previous level of awareness while driving.

Toyota has been making a nice car for people to whom driving is a mundane and uninteresting experience; just getting from point A to point B reliably. These people are not looking for thrills. And that's OK. Not everyone needs a souped up car.

9. Great post. I agree. In our attempts to protect ourselves from
everything, we have attenuated our own abilities to protect ourselves from anything. I still wish I had my 57 Ford Fairlane back. No bells and whistles, but it left room for some fun. Thabnks for your response. I had forgot your FOR (frame of reference).
