Activists and Union Janitors tell Wells Fargo "STop Playing Monopoly with our Lives'

SEIU Local 26 janitors converged on Downtown Minneapolis today with a pair of coordinated actions designed to disrupt the business community, particularly megabank and cleaning client Wells Fargo. While about 40 members of the bargaining unit ran a decoy action, marching and chanting in the Skyways from US Bank Corps Plaza, the main unit descended on the Wells Fargo downtown branch.

Workers and organizers poured into the bank lobby and set up a mock Monopoly Board. They also dumped out over ten thousand green plastic Monopoly house game pieces to represent over 84,000 foreclosures in Minnesota. Activists on the Skyway level dumped bags of Monopoly money over the railing as David Gilbert-Patterson, an intern with Take Action, strutted around the bank dressed as Rich Uncle Pennybags in a top hat, tuxedo and cane.

3. I don't get it. The janitors are protesting their mortgages or something about their jobs?

Are they employees of Wells Fargo? Or employees of a firm that services Wells Fargo? What is the remedy they are asking for or is this just a "I hate banks" sort of thing?

4. Wells Fargo is doing exactly

what it was created to do: maximize profits. The people who run it vacillate between indifference and contempt for the lesser humans who work for them or do business with them. They are unmoved by empathy, compassion or ethical values, but they do respond to fear, and any sign of rebellion by the lower orders always causes them to be very afraid.
