1. They *could* boycott Marvel movies... yeah, right...
When Iron Man 2 comes out they'll stand in line with their kids like the rest of us.

Puh-leeze.

5. I should hope so, Iron Man was a very entertaining movie.
The fact that it's 93% at Rotten Tomatoes is amazing: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/iron_man/

I mean, it's deserved IMO, but still pretty surprising.

2. See how CRAZY people get when they're told the truth?
If anything, I think Marvel was being too kind...

6. Heh,
Of course Marvel is apologizing and taking it back- and promising not to run the signs in the future isues. By doing this- they will essentailly SELL THIS COMIC OUT! This lone issue will be a "collectors item". Marvel ain't dumb- they know controversy sells.

If they said screw you- we'll keep doing it...eh, no one would really care, the issue might get an untick in sales but nothing really substantial.

It's all about the money.

8. You're right about one thing-
Even before this video ended I had decided to go out and buy a copy of this comic book- purely because it could one day be a collector's item. Anything that gets banned or recalled becomes an instant classic.

9. There Really Is No Such Thing As a Collector's Item Comic Book Anymore
Edited on Mon Feb-15-10 07:47 PM by chrisau214
E-Bay and the ready availability of digital versions of pretty much every comic ever published have destroyed that market.

Even if the collector's/speculator's market still existed Marvel wouldn't make any more money from that market. The print run is the print run and that was set in stone before any controversy came to be. They wouldn't make a penny from the comic becoming a collectible. Even if the first printing suddenly sells out Marvel isn't going to see much more money from that because the vast majority of comics are sold directly to comic book shops on a non-returnable basis. So Marvel is paid for what those stores order whether they sell or not. The newsstand market that still allows unsold copied to be returned for credit is now so small for comics that any extra sales made from that market would hardly be noticeable.

The profits from that would go to the comic book shops when the owners of those shops suddenly decided to raise the price of the comic from it's normal cover price to whatever elevated price they thought they could get.

When the 'Death of Superman' in issue #75 of 'Superman was released the store where I used to buy most of my comics was selling the comic for $25 on the day it was released. They had several tall stacks of the comic behind the counter and they were willingly ripping off all of the grandmother's who thought they were buying something that would someday put their grandkids through college. It is now eighteen years later and you can purchase a copy of 'Superman' #75 for a couple of dollars. Using comic books as an investment is a very bad idea.

DC Comics didn't see a penny of that price hike just as Marvel won't see an extra penny from any secondary market mark-up on this comic.

7. A couple of observations:
Edited on Mon Feb-15-10 06:13 PM by WhoIsNumberNone
1) The reason Marvel falls all over themselves to apologize to the right wingers and not the liberals is that liberals don't plant bombs in the lobby of your building when they are upset with you.

2) Religious freaks VS Disney = Disney wins. 100% of the time. Disney parks have been doing "Gay Days" since at least the 80's -Maybe even the 70's- and religious kooks have been threatening to boycott them ever since. With zero effect. None. If the kooks couldn't stick to not going on rides that some gay guy in booty shorts had been riding the day before, I'm sure Disney must have been quaking in fear of the retribution they would inflict on them for insuring same sex partners. Not.

10. They thought twice because they realized..
Who is more likely to be a comic book READER than one of these "morans"?? Uh-huh. It's obvious.
