15. If some of these egotistical fools have talent
why did they have to use Autotune? And I said the same thing 25 years ago. What have most of these people actually DONE for the Haitian people?

20. The ones that autotune can't sing - especially someone like T-Pain
But most of them are very talented. Autotune should be banned.

21. I agree there
Maybe just one person, Wyclef Jean is an exception. But anyway, yes they do get some sort of pay. Forming a group for a recording like that is extremely hard, especially dealing with their record companies. That's the music biz, like it or not. It's now only a matter of time before we get to see a new version of Hear'n Aid's "Stars".

5. great cause - horribly put together & Foxx showing his parlor trick towards the end was really
unnecessary. Adding in a long rap also makes it sound so silly. Seems of a much less quality than the original. I'm allowed to my opinion of the song. Well, hopefully many enjoy it and are encouraged to buy it for a donation, instead of donating outright.

19. Not Quite Right with the Jackson and Richie Comment
Edited on Mon Feb-15-10 01:05 AM by chrisau214
The origins of 'We Are the World' came about due to the efforts of Bob Geldof and Band-Aid with 'Do They Know It's Christmas'. After the success of 'Do They Know It's Christmas' Harry Belafonte and Ken Kragen set out to produce an 'American' version of the song. Eventually Richie and Jackson were selected to write the song that became 'We Are the World'.

Not only was 'Do They Know It's Christmas' the first 'Ethiopian Relief' song but it was a better song than either version of 'We Are the World'.

It was the Band-Aid effort that led not just to 'We Are the World' but also to 'Live Aid', 'Farm-Aid', and a host of other charitable efforts.

I'm sure that Geldof would be the first to point out that the idea of a charity single or charity concert didn't originate with him. George Harrison's 1971 'Concert for Bangladesh' immediately comes to mind.

Of course none of this is meant to disparage either version of 'We Are the World'. Everyone involved should be commended for their efforts.

Chris
