Palin: Obama could win reelection if he ‘played the war card’ and declared ‘war on Iran.’

This morning on Fox News Sunday, Chris Wallace conducted a 25-minute interview with Sarah Palin, a paid contributor to Fox News. Palin told Wallace that she doesn’t think President Obama will win reelection in 2012 if he “continues on the path he has America on.” However, Palin indicated that his chances of winning would dramatically change if Obama simply declared war on Iran:

WALLACE: How hard do you think President Obama would be to defeat in 2012?

PALIN: It depends on a few things, say he played — I got this from Buchanan — say he played the war card. Say he decided to declare war on Iran or decide to really come out and do whatever he could to support Israel–which I would like him to do. That changes the dynamics of what we can assume will happen between now and three years. Because I think if the election were today, Obama would not be elected.

WALLACE: You’re not suggesting that Obama would cynically play the war card?

PALIN: I’m not suggesting that, I’m saying if he did, things would dramatically change if he decided to toughen up and do all that he can to secure our nation and secure our allies. I think people would shift their thinking a bit.

Palin appears to be fine-tuning her position on Iran. Late last year, Palin mistook Iraq for Iran when she suggested that the U.S. has to crack down on Iraq to prevent nuclear war in Iran. In 2008, Palin appeared to claim that the U.S. needs to “win” the non-existent war with Iran. During her interview with Wallace, Palin also confirmed that she would consider running for President in 2012 and that it would be “absurd” not to.

So it's official: for whatever reason, Roger Ailes is now turning the propaganda crank to get us to wage war on Iran.

Next, we can expect the wide-eyed hosts of "Fox & Friends" to show images of Ahmadinejad while exclaiming over their coffee mugs about how beady his eyes look and how they would never let him babysit their children. This will be followed three hours later with an official FOX NEWS report:

"A chorus of voices in the mainstream media have been raising serious questions about the evil nature or Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and loudly wondering how America can continue to tolerate his presence on the global stage....."

Turn the crank, Roger. Turn the crank.

10. She is showing that not only does she know the difference between Iran and Iraq now
but also that we would have a 3rd war on our hands if we had a, :gulp:, Palin presidency. It also shows that if we did have a war in Iran, it would be completely unrelated to needing to go to war. Instead, it would be simply for election purposes to raise her poll numbers if her poll numbers were down.

11. Oh yeah, sure ....and if Obama did that,.........
the cost of the war would increase the deficit and the GOP could criticize the president for that.
And I'm sure the American people would back any plans to invade Iran because there's poll data to support it. Right? I mean she just wouldn't make that up.

22. I used to have faith in peoples' inherent intelligence...
that would prevail over and above the general moronic hum of political blowhards...but not now. Not in this age of Palin and Bush and Limbaugh,Beck,O'Reilly and hell, all of Fox News and a huge chunk of Congress. It's not gender specific, it's just...outrageously pathetic.

The leaders of the Dumbing Down of America movement are scary, but far scarier and more dangerous to the diminishing of this country...are the massive followers of just plain dumb-ass, hateful, mean-spirited, brain-dead thinking.

This political circus is like an edition of Mad Magazine gone viral.

30. Americans tend to love war
I'm afraid the majority of Americans love war. They are very irresponsible as a people, are arrogant, and they allow their government and media to lie to them all the time. It is sad, because both major parties do the same things. The warning to Americans is to remember you are not completely blameless, you are starting evil wars you can not really justify, and these sick politicians you have are just pandering to your lusts and your insanities. If you keep going this way, you will be like Nazi Germany. And the world will have to destroy you to save itself from your sick behavior.

15. Wow....
The title of this thread seemed so outrageous (even for Palin) that I thought maybe her words were being somehow distorted; after all, it doesn't seem like anyone could possibly be stupid enough to actually believe that a war with Iran is something that the American public would enthusiastically rally behind (or that it would be a good thing for the world and our country, for that matter), but damn, she's even more insane than I thought... :scared:

If this lady ever gets anywhere near the presidency I'm going to start work on a fallout shelter...

Russia has made it abundantly clear. They will stand behind Iran...and they have enough nukes for both of them.

Iran has made it perfectly clear. ANY attack on Iran and they will wipe Israel off the map.

This pee-brain numb-skull wants World War 111 to break out for sure.

Speaking of which...exactly how many more wars do we have to be fighting to make this a World War?

19. China would weigh in as well
Now there's a scenario, we take on Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, Russia, and China.

At least it would end the suspense as to whether we can pull out of our economic nose dive. With the world in flames and major American cities destroyed our current economic dilemma would become small potatoes.

Thanks Sarah, what a great idea.

23. How does starting yet another war "secure our nation"?
Seriously Sarah- You really just don't get it, do you? Bush's wars are a big part of why we're in the mess we're in today. Maybe you think starting another war will decrease the number of terrorists trying to blow up our airliners? And what if the Russians decide it's enough and intervene for Iran? You think we're just going to kick their asses too?

24. So... Obama should "get tough" and kill more dark-skinned people, but that would
be "playing the war card" according to Sarah, so which is it, is she saying she would hope he kills people by starting an unnecessary war for political purposes or that it would show "he's tougher" than what her klan thinks? Now we know why she supported *, I guess... because he played the war card really gooodddd.....

25. Cuckoo...Cuckoo...
Okay, let me get this straight. Palin claims if Obama attacks Iran he'll get re-elected. Brother!

Let's see...we're trying to rebuild a semblance of credibility in the Middle East and she wants us to attack Iran. No problem. Let's fight a three-pronged war and ask the soldiers who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan to do a tour or two of Iran while they're at it. Let's just snap our fingers and get a couple hundred thousand new soldiers. WTF!!!

Sadly, a segment of our population would love this. Like the neo-cons who swore we'd go into Iraq and mop up and be out of there is a few months and be welcomes as liberators (Hello, Dick Cheney!). Why don't these nut-less nut jobs at Fox News question her theories. I know she is being paid (actually stealing money) by them, but come on. If Obama ever thought of attacking Iran this country would go crazy. Another war is the last thing we need. I know conservatives love the old bang-bang-bang theory, but screw them.

Let's get our other messes in the world straightened out before we start thinking of something someone like Palin thinks is a good idea. Obama has a little more smarts than this moron.

31. Man, it's so obvious, the fucking republicans want to bomb & invade Iran so badly....
Edited on Sun Feb-07-10 06:46 PM by GreenTea
every republican is giving Obama "advice" bomb Iran and get re-elected....

Cheney has wanted it for years, so have the oil corporations who drool over those Iranian oil fields, the weapons makers are also drooling over the aspect of huge profits as are the two hundred plus other corporations who have been makings outrageous profits keeping wars going....they want Obama to do their dirty work.

Just as they wanted president Clinton to invade Iraq (better to have a Dem start a war). But if the Dem won't do it, the republicans will certainly come up with some "terrorism" excuse to convince people we need to bomb and invade another sovereign nation....the more unrest in the region the more profits and non-accountability.....

Republicans want wars for profits, and they want wars for the trillions of dollars in oil and they want war for their military & weapons and to keep us in fear and wars of imperialism WILL create even more terrorist in that region, as we bomb & kill civilians.

Republican warmongers love the thought of more terrorist....it makes the republicans & corporations job easier and gives the republicans an excuse for their wars for profits, and it keeps the American people in fear and wanting to support a trillion dollar military budget every year...not to mention the corporate profits made on the military, CIA world imperialism....The republicans love and create the terrorist.

As the best friend of a guy in Afghanistan right now, the son of a man who fought in Vietnam and grandson of a WWII vet, war is something that should be avoided at all costs. But not to the neocons, because its never any of their children going to war. If one of theirs was drafted and sent to Afghanistan, these chickenhawks would change their tune real fast. But since the majority of soldiers are generally from poorer background, who gives a fuck, right?
