John Edwards wrapped up his "Road to One America" tour after a final stop in Prestonsburg, KY after visiting 11 cities in 8 different states to raise awareness of poverty in America and offer plans on how to build One America, for all of us.

The tour kicked off in New Orleans and has been covered online on the Edwards for President website allowing anyone to "virtually" be on the tour: http://johnedwards.com/road/

Numerous bloggers also joined the One America Tour at various stops. The Edwards for President campaign, who has long embraced the new media, credentialed a number of bloggers for this tour. I happened to be one such blogger and caught up with the tour yesterday, the third and final day. My report is here: http://blog.johnedwards.com/story/2007/7/19/11218/7293

1. My hometown!
I've not been back to Prestonsburg many times in the past twenty years, but I grew up there and will always consider it my home. I couldn't be happier that John Edwards chose to visit. I just wish I could have been there.

Many thanks for posting the video!

2. Prestonsburg is your hometown? Wow!
It is a lovely historic town and the people were so friendly. There was a big crowd there to see John Edwards and the mayor declared July 18th the official "John Edwards Day."

My pleasure to post the video, thanks for stopping by!

3. Great Video and Great Report!
It is fortunate that Edwards credentials bloggers. The bloggers and citizen journalists have done an excellent job of covering this tour. Without you, much of this news would not be available to people. This is an important story, and everyone should have the opportunity to "see" the places and the people that Edwards saw. Thank you!!

4. Thanks!
Yes, it's very cool that the Edwards campaign is so inclusive of bloggers. As Edwards has said, citizen journalism helps to democratize the process.

5. John And The People
Thanks so much for this wonderful story. Sad that so many live in poverty but JRE has a plan to lift people up when he becomes President. His initiatives so far are spot on. JRE was in Des Moines yesterday speaking with AFSCME union convention and I pray they endorse Senator Edwards...some wait a good long time before endorsing...never quite sure why that is, but JRE has worked very hard all over the United States pushing for unions in the work place. IMO, they can do no less for him.

Go John Go!

8. Great speech!
Thanks for posting. And, in spite of his protests to the contrary, he absolutely does deserve to be compared with Bobby Kennedy.

9. Thanks for covering this
The video is a good way to get the word out and really show Edwards. We really need to spead it around. Edwards is so leading on the main issues that are important.

Thanks for sharing it.

14. Thanks for putting up the speech, Ultraist
It is time everyone got the message that there are two Americas, "the very rich and everyone else." America was never meant to be an oligarchy. Dire times seem to bring forth our best leaders, and I would say that is happening with John Edwards.

We are becoming the gilded society. Two Americas indeed.

16. And this is why
And this is why im voting for John Edwards, if only he wanted single-player health care he would be perfect, but i understand he needs to get elected.

Im so angry the media loves Obama and the Clinton horse-race, here is a true progressive answer to our prayers, I like Obama too, but Edwards is far better on the issues and just as articulate!

18. welcome to the DU
Hi Rabidchickens..

:hi:

I agree the media is trying to define this race to the two who have raised the most money--because they will gain the most in ad dollars, obviously. The blogosphere has a lot of good information, and reports such as these vlogs from citizen journalists like ultraist get the word out about candidates' positions or covers speeches ignored by the MSM.

Stop by the Daily Kos too for the Edwards Evening News nightly.

Here's a link to last night's: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/7/20/19930/5753

20. Glad to hear it!
And I agree with you about the media creating an Obama and Clinton race. Elizabeth Edwards said something good about that on Larry King last night. King asked her what she thought about the media focus on those two and she said the media was just trying to make an interesting story. She said there will come a point when "...they will stop looking for a story, and start looking for a president. And then they will come to John."

On the health care plan, I think John has something that can actually get passed in congress and become a reality. He has commented that the plan may well evolve into a single payer plan over time, (depending on the choices that people make from the options in coverage he will make available to all of us). I like it that John Edward's plans are ready to go, because a lot of people cannot wait much longer for some help.

17. Great! I had to listen twice.
Edwards is ahead of his time. We lived in Europe many years and have many friends there. We left there in the early years of the
Reagan regime. Things were better here than there as they had been since at least WWII. But, as a result of Republican and conservative rule here and liberal social democratic governments there, overall, our European friends are doing better than us. In general, I would have to say, Europeans are doing better economically than Americans. Americans still think of themselves as the richest nation. We used to be. And certainly, in terms of potential we are still a rich nation. But, in terms of the well being of the average American, we have fallen behind since Reagan veered the nation toward divisive politics. Actually, our decline started under Nixon who brought in not only HMOs but also ERISA and many other repressive programs masked as "social" problems.

19. You bring important perspective to this.
I have heard this a couple of times lately from people from Europe. I think this is a very important point for people here to consider. I also believe that John Edwards will be the kind of leader who will work well with European nations, and rebuild our ties. We used to be much closer.
