Sean Hannity and Michael Moore Face Off on Cause of Mortgage Meltdown: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-JGbMYecug

I'll try and get a transcript but Faux use some sort of voice recognition software that renders it unintelligible, surprise surprise.

1. Moore is doing well turning the attention from Obama to Bush.

3. Michael Moore has gained a lot of poise over the years.

I can't imagine the Michael Moore who did Roger & Me and The Awful Truth sitting down and talking so rationally with an idjit like Sean Hannity as the Michael Moore of today. I actually believe he is a man of deep faith in Catholic social teachings. He seems much humbler now that he's world famous than when he was just starting out.

4. Confidence begets poise,
and confidence comes from knowing your stuff. I think it's safe to say that Michael Moore has benefited from experience and education with the issues that are close to his heart and is now more knowledgeable about them, better able to articulate his position, and better able to anticipate attacks against it.

I think it's also safe to say that the critics of Michael Moore who write him off as a knee-jerk reactionary don't bother to pay any real critical attention to his arguments. If they did so they would have a tougher row to hoe in legitimately dismissing his views. Here Hannity is at least trying to give his performance the patina of an informed participant, but you'll note that he really can only appeal to anecdotal counterpoints (e.g. Tim Geithner and Jim Johnson), questionable causal chains (legislation from 30 years ago), ad hominem attacks (why aren't you helping people with your money?), and unsupported counter-assertions ("The Republicans have been warning...")

As usual, it's just talking points. They're easy to rehearse because all you have to remember is the assertion, not its supporting data. Against the unprepared, such a tactic lends an advantage in confidence, but it's no match for someone with data at the ready.
