4. You need to see Capitalism in a theater without distractions.
That's the nice thing about watching a movie in a theater. You get a large screen and no distractions besides others watching with you. Also, when you see this film in the theater you help keep the film in theaters so that lots of people who don't rent movies or cheat on copyright laws can see it.

We went for a matinee. It cost us each $7.00 in L.A. I understand it is cheaper elsewhere. See it in the theater. Don't watch anything on line. It's really important especially this one time. The movie brings home the message that the American people are just this far from absolute, total corporate domination and ruin.

8. Most of all the profits gained from the movie will show DC two things:
The People are willing to spend their money to learn the truth, and the People know the truth. Number of hits on YouTube prove nothing b/c you can have a million hits by just 100 people reloading the page 100 times.

Besides, Moore puts his money back into film making and also gives generously to a variety of non-profit organizations working to shore up and reclaim our democracy. It's not enough that he and his family have had to walk around for a decade with armed security details trailing their every move because the rabid right sends him death threats every hour on the hour. But you act as though he should take a vow of poverty just because he speaks truth to power. I have no problem with Michale Moore making money because I figure he's being paid to do a job he's actually doing, and doing well. As opposed to, say, the banking industry who gets paid millions more than Moore will ever see to be deceitful and fuck over the American (and global) citizens.

10. This strikes me a somewhat hypocritical
If Michael more is serious he should become non-profit and distribute all of his movies at cost. He should make the exact same wage as his lowest paid employee and he should distribute his movies at cost otherwise he's just another capitalist.

And this

It's not enough that he and his family have had to walk around for a decade with armed security details trailing their every move because the rabid right sends him death threats every hour on the hour.

My daughter had the misfortune of marrying a drug dealer when she was 17,it took her 13 years to wise up. Her ex husband in now serving a second federal prison sentence he has also lost all parental rights to his children. In both cases my wife testified against him and he and his family have sworn revenge. My wife and I are armed every where we co (we can't afford private security) If Michael Moore had his way we'd be disarmed (but I bet he'd still have his security detail)

12. Michael Moore is not against
the making of money, he is opposed to gouging. In Bowling for Columbine, he made the point that Canada has similar gun ownership numbers as the US but we have much more violence. The point is that these tools themselves are not the problem, it's the misuse.

13. Couldn't agree with you more
:D

I think people missed the point of Bowling...it wasn't to bash gun owners or those who feel they have the right to bear arms, but to bash the media for turning us into scared little kids with weapons.

14. I would ad, skippy911sc, that Moore is not opposed to gun ownership
but rather the kind of society that sees violence as the answer to everything. Gun violence is a particularly dramatic kind of violence, but the underlying violence is not caused by the guns or the knives or the fists for that matter. It is caused by the deep-seated feeling that somebody else is taking advantage of you. That feeling that you are being duped or taken advantage of makes a person very angry. It stops trust. It stops real communication. We live in a dog eat dog society.

As for the profit. Moore does not keep all the money he makes. First, it costs a lot to make a movie. If Moore gave away all of his profits, he would not be able to make another movie ever. Second, a lot of the proceeds go to pay the distributing costs and the distributors who win on big on some movies and lose even bigger on many others.

If you look at the stories and films about movie directors and producer, many of them enjoy great wealth at certain points in their lives. That wealth can suddenly be lost on a gamble on the making of a movie. Happened to many directors, actors and producers.

If you are thinking from a socialist point of view, remember Michael Moore's movies would never be funded by a socialist government. In a society with no private enterprise whatsoever, Moore's movies about injustice in the society probably could not be made.

If you think Moore is opposed to capitalism, you are simply wrong. He does not see things in black and white. Injustice exists in socialist and in capitalist societies. In societies that maintain a balance between the two kinds of economies, injustice can be dealt with better than in societies that are extreme in one or the other of the two directions.

16. Many people think as you do.
I've lived in Socialist countries, and there were businesses all over the place. Don't be silly.

And what does arming yourself have to do with this movie, or the argument for or against capitalism?

17. I've lived in democratic socialist countries too, but that is different from
a country that is socialist in the sense of communistic.

Some of the people are posting about Moore's movie on the shootings at Columbine.

15. It's $12 in Denvoid. Your reasoning is fine, but not everyone has the needed $$$$
I feel like I have to keep reminding people of this simple fact... not EVERYONE has extra money.

There are lots of people in this society who don't have enough to eat, who don't have a place to live. Some of us are right here on DU. Please remember us, too.

7. All the links are to fake files
From what I understand, any copies that are floating around out there are fakes that have a file inside asking you to sign up with a website, complete a CPA offer or download some sort of software

They are using the movie's name to spam people

11. no problem
We had this same problem on Twitter the other day. Massive amounts of spam from people offering Google Wave accounts if you followed them...problem is they did not hand any out and just wanted your follow so they could spam you to death

If and when the real movie leaks to the internet, it would show up at scenereleases.info or rlslog.net almost immediately.
