I went to the Values Voter Summit of 2009 and was surprised - shocked, I tell you - to find that, evidently, the only elected officials with "values" are Republicans. But here's the thing... No matter how hard I looked, I couldn't find John Ensign, David Vitter, Mark Sanford (or his gay Lt. Gov), Larry Craig, or Mark Foley.

Disappointed!

Alas, all not was lost - I did find Bill O'Reilly and Gov. Tim Pawlenty.

1. On the whole, I'm not sure this sort of agitprop is particularly helpful.
I mean, it has two primary effects: 1) It instructs one segment of society that they are despised by another segment of society, and 2) it lets that despising segment (which includes me, incidentally) get its ya yas off, watching said despised persons squirm (or stumble, in the case of the ones who are shitfaced).

But it's not going to dissuade (m)any "Values Voters"; excessive ya-ya offgetting is probably not good for you; and persuadable people outside those two camps are going to be turned off by the agressive camera-in-your-face attack "journalism."

I think this falls into the category of "guilty pleasures," which Acquinas (or someone) warns us to moderate, lest we curdle our essential beings.

Just sayin'.

3. I think it's helpful it makes very valid points that they don't highlight ...

lack of values with their own party. At least if they did that the organization would at least show their sincerity. A least when there is blatant corruption on our side we'll call it wrong. Plus when it comes to rights of children the Democratic party have always been the first to step up and ironically over the tenure of Clinton abortions reduced as abstinence doesn't work and wasn't encouraged by Democrats.I don't feel the video blogger was trying to win any votes but at least give them self examination. The whole event tried to define that lack of values only was something seen on the left and that just turns out to be far from the truth.

4. Well, I don't pretend to be psychic, but I'm pretty sure the vlogger's motivation . . .
was to torment his targets because they're assholes.

And from the assholes' point of view, they're behaving very morally: anyone of their number caught sinning large flagrantly enough has been sincerely disinvited.

I thought the vlogger's most telling question -- and one that might be of value to someone outside the values-voter and values-voter-tormentor communities -- was the question "If you're values voters, what do you think the rest of us vote on?"

Now *that* was a zinger. They didn't have a single cogent answer.

6. How could the Dems let these freaks get away with the use of the word "Values?"
How is not providing health care to those who need it a "value"?

Don't let them get away with using that word.

We the Dems; are the party of Values. WE NEED TO USE THE WORD.

7. Good points! I think what those people mean by "value" is just code for
white, middle class, heterosexual, male-dominant lifestyle.

It also translates to "I've got mine because I'm all those things above" and screw everyone else.

8. I thoroughly enjoyed this. Well-dressed cockroaches, scurrying from light.
Some may not approve of this method.

But I fucking hate them for what they've done, and what they're doing.

Shine the light. Watch them scurry.

10. Hmm
I think asking the questions was good. I did not like or approve of the tone the vlogger took when dealing with some of these people. Though after that absurd BS 'sting' on Acorn by a couple of republican lying operatives I could understand why someone would get upset.

If only the vlogger would have cut it off before describing sexual fantasies or claiming that Mark Foley or Larry Craig would have found anyone cute.
