An event in Chicago by Oprah and Black Eyed Peas, shutting it down.

Watch Oprah's face filled with amazement and enlightenment all at the
same time.

Incredible crowd....

:wow:

3. You are evil.
I couldn't tear my eyes away from that and now I want to tear them out, LOL.

The Oprah flash mob thing was really cool, though.

and that after being touted nationally for half a year by an entire channel

poor tea baggers - 364 more days to try again

4. Dancing = Bliss
Edited on Sun Sep-13-09 12:00 AM by targetpractice
Absolutely nothing tops dancing with like-minded fellow human beings.

Synchronicity = Contentment

Or, just being in sync with a like-minded crowd... like Obama's "Fired up! Ready to go!" chant.

Or, spontaneously bursting into a chorus of "God Bless America" as Ted Kennedy's hearse stopped at the Capitol steps.

Contrast this liberal harmony with the cacophony of screaming red-faced right-wing teabaggers with their scrawled hateful signs amongst their rhythmless obese kin folk plopped in lawn chairs and Medicare-subsidized scooters.

Because that looked choreographed to me.

8. Definitely some choreography...
At the very end.... Oprah says "Coming up... Find out how this crowd pulled off --" The video cut her off.

Be that as it may... Probably choreographed... It was still cool to watch.

20. Yes. Here's the entire video including how they did it.
Edited on Sun Sep-13-09 09:21 AM by leftrightwingnut
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T22VEBznFVo&NR=1

Only 800 trained dancers out of a crowd of 20,000.

I have watched this about 20 times. I still get goose flesh every time I watch it. It is still utterly amazing that they managed to pull this off.

It was perfectly choreographed to amaze continuously from beginning to end. Just when you think, "oh, there are a few dancers doing doing a dance up front," more people start joining them. And then, still more. You think "it might just still be spontaneous line dancing, people just joining in." But the jumps seem too precise. Then the entire crowd is doing it and you think "where did they learn the steps?" Suddenly there is the turn and turtle thing that spreads backward through the crowd for two blocks! Now you're beginning to think "what the hell is going on here?" And the crowd splits into mirror images! Now, you're completely thunderstruck. No matter how it was done, it is simply incredible.

Kudos to the people who pulled this off. I'd love to participate in one myself some day.

(On edit: kudos grammar.)

16. This may have been choreographed, but I've been a part of equally cool dancing events
Edited on Sun Sep-13-09 07:11 AM by shadowknows69
They were called Grateful Dead shows. Actually the antithesis of choreography-60,000 people dancing like nobody's watching. Still a beautiful symmetry to it when you're in the middle of it though.

ETA: Similar experiences at Blues Traveler, Allman Brothers and Tragically Hip shows.

21. 800 planted volunteers, 20,000 total in the crowd.
Choreographing a crowd of spontaneous volunteers that large is no small feat.

Tea-baggers have done a lot worse.

26. And your point is?
Nobody claimed it was a miracle. But you have to (well, maybe YOU don't have to) admit, it was beautiful, awe-inspiring. This kind of thing makes me love people, who will do the damnedest things just becasue they're wonderful. It's a good emotional antidote to the awful things I've seen crowds doing lately. Wish we could get a "Back Barack" flashmob going somewhere.

25. Somehow this made me think . . .
. . . of that pathetic display on 9/11/09 of the teabaggers performing "New York". I can't find the video now but it's worth seeing just for the surreal awfulness of it.

Thanks a lot for sharing, it's great to see this kind of positivity. It kind of brought back the same feelings I had at the end of the election when everyone went crazy in Grant Park.
