3. Those on the left ... who think the only way to
Edited on Sat Sep-12-09 12:58 AM by waiting for hope
fix the system is through single payer ...

I think the Physicians for a National Health Program have proved that as well as Dennis Kucinch ... Here's my take - I don't think the majority of the Dems want a public option - Rahm Emmanuel has been pretty demanding about the "liberal" (yeah, I think he means the far left) side of the party "to get in line" - all of them pretty much stink of HC lobbyist money. So, they take a plan to the House with a watered down PO portion, the Blue Dogs with the help of the screaming, crying, whining republicans water it down even more - send it off to the Senate, where asshats such as Baucus (who's own plan was written by Liz Fowler, a former VP for Public Policy and External Affairs at WellPoint) and the conservadems with the help of the screaming, crying, whining republicans will rewrite it and take the PO completely out - end result, stalemate, and in the spirit of bipartisanship the final bill will have NO TEETH, NO PUBLIC OPTION AND NO REFORM.

On edit - K&R

..for contributing mightly to the dialogue.

Unfortunately imo Big Money always wins and will win big this time as well. The forces of "Corporatetocracy" are too well organized and entrenched compared to the forces aligned in opposition and for real Healthcare Reform.

I also think that the current health care reform legislation championed by the Democratic Party represents a single undertaking that is too large and daunting in scale and scope to be attempted at one time, and hence too confusing when passed through the media lens used/controlled by Big Money. The GOP and many Dems who stand in opposition to authentic health care reform are able to distort and redefine the details in ways that confuse and scare the bejeebus out of the sheeple. That's a recipe for failure. The slow motion heatlhcare reform train wreck we are witnessing appears to me to prove my point. As Bill Paxtons' character in "Aliens" the movie so eloquently put it: "Game Over Man"

Dems and proponents of reform talking about facts and details will not sell this effort to the sheeple. The main strategic objective MUST be message control and management (GOP Style) first and foremost. In this are area the Dems and the Whitehouse are out gunned, out maneuvered and soon will see their proposals and reform efforts dispatched the political boneyard that Hillary Care now resides in.
