This is why even regular people who are not political junkies should never presume that just because somebody is on television to give their opinions it doesn't mean they are smarter or more informed than you are. Most of them are good at sounding smart and saying nothing of substance, Maria Bartiromo just bypasses the sounding smart aspect altogether. - WB

6. thanks for the link
It is astounding. I used to think people on tv had to know what they were talking about to get there, lol. Television is hardly a meritocracy, just ask Jenna Bush.

Part of the "GHWB's out of touch" narrative.

20. About 20 years after the first one was used
in my hometown.

In June of 1974, the first U.P.C. scanner was installed at a Marsh's supermarket in Troy, Ohio. The first product to have a bar code included was a packet of Wrigley's Gum.

8. I am amazed at how naive
Republicans are. And they so act like Dems are naive and they have common sense etc. To be a Republican in today's GOP you have to just forget all sense of reality or common sense. You have to believe things like health care will be fine because you just have to not pay attention to it and it will fix itself. That's insane. Bush was getting at that with the emergency room crack, they really do think everything is cool since people can just go to the ER.

23. Naive is not the word, wetzelbill. Naive is what fourteen year olds are.
Anyone older than eighteen is a dumbass, not a naive person. Naive belongs to the young and inexperience. True stupid is for grown ups.

12. evidently she doesn't know
Or she thinks you can buy into it somehow. I would say she mispoke, but that's such a dumb question to ask I think she just didn't know. And she never tried to say something like: "well if you could..." or "what I mean is" she just kept going. And when he corrected her she seemed flabbergasted that he did, but not about her being wrong, just that she still disagreed with him. It was a weird exchange, illuminating in that it showed how dense she is.

because she was so SURE she had him now, it was zinger time, and Weiner had just be ROOLED!

It was a moment that surely deserves a memoriam. I put forth that everytime a person falsely thinks he or she has just landed a gotcha, it she be said "Yeah, he totally Bartiromoed him" Or, to simplify the process, whenever a false zinger flies, just exclaim "Bartiromo!"

What a monumental idiot.

27. Bartiromo has never impressed me
In interviews, articles, and assorted TV appearances she's never come across as terribly informed or intelligent. How far would she have got without her looks? (Apologies to dearly departed Joey Ramone.)

28. wikipedia has a blurb on her Celebrity Jeopardy appearance:
lol

From her wiki:

In March, 2006, Bartiromo appeared as a contestant<1> on the game show Celebrity Jeopardy!. She was matched against CNN news anchor Anderson Cooper and Kweisi Mfume, President of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. After two rounds Bartiromo finished with $0, having only attempted to answer two questions in the Double Jeopardy round, and answering only one correctly. Because her balance of $0 following the Double Jeopardy round would have made her ineligible for the Final Jeopardy round, Maria was 'gifted' $1,000 in order to keep playing. Maria answered the Final Jeopardy question incorrectly, and finished the game with $300 of the $1,000 she had been 'gifted'. Her charity was awarded $10,000, as per custom.

31. Another thing, what makes Maria think a U.S insurance company will cover a $38,000 prescription?
Edited on Wed Sep-02-09 09:52 PM by quiet.american
U.S. insurance companies -- when they see a $38,000 prescription coming at them for coverage, they will do everything in their power to cut that insurance customer off at that knees but quick (and refuse to cover that, too!)
