So it turns out that Contessa Brewer had good reason to see a connection between http://crooksandliars.com/david-neiwert/gospel-hate-arizona-pastor-steve-and">the rabidly hateful rhetoric spewed by the likes of Pastor Steven Anderson and the angry, gun-toting protesters turning out for presidential events: One of the most prominent of these, an African-American man named "Chris", is in fact a member of Pastor Anderson's congregation.

"Chris" was on Alex Jones' "Prison Planet" radio show late last week and discussed how "my pastor was beaten up" at a Border Patrol checkpoint.

Yes, that pastor is indeed Steven Anderson, http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/2009/04/17/20090417borderbeating0417-ON.html">who was arrested in April by the Border Patrol for being uncooperative at a patrol checkpoint. Anderson attempted to make himself something of a national martyr to the conspiracists out there by posting http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUzd7G875Hc">a video to YouTube about it that quickly went viral.

Jones took note of the Anderson connection:

Jones: Now I'm starting to get a clearer picture. You go to Pastor Anderson's church, I see.

3. "Chris", in the radio show interview, complains about the

"internal checkpoints" set up in Gila Bend, AZ.

I live near Tombstone, AZ. There is a checkpoint on State Highway 80, about a mile or so north of Tombstone. Every time I travel to Tombstone, or to Sierra Vista, I have to go through the Border Patrol Checkpoint.

They are set up to catch mules bringing illegals from the border. The "Patriot Act" authorized the Border Patrol to set up these internal checkpoints (within 150 miles of a border, I believe). They are annoying, but I've never heard of anyone getting "beat up" by one. Contrary to the assertion of Mr. Jones, they do not "wave on" illegals (or anyone for that matter) and harass "good 'muricans". They simply ask if you are a US citizen. If you answer yes and you don't have a van load of Hispanic people with you, that's it. If you say "no" or any other answer, they probably ask you to produce some sort of ID. They might ask you to step out while they search your vehicle. I don't know really. Now, I will say that I've been behind a pickup truck with a tarp over the bed... and when it got near the checkpoint, an amazing number of people jumped out from under the tarp and made a foot race for the fields, with a lot of Border Patrol officers chasing them down. Really, it looked like a clown car at the circus.

The basic border problem (that was here before) is that illegals would drive up to the fence (which was just a barb wire affair before the wall) hop over and walk a few hundred yards, and someone would pick them up (the "coyote") and drive them to LA or Phoenix or where ever. The inside checkpoints are there to help stop this practice (with one unintended consequence that more and more illegals now hike miles through the Sonoran desert to get by these new checkpoints, where they can die in the summer heat).

But IF these assholes were going to take guns to town hall meetings to protest the inside checkpoints, why the hell didn't they do it when Bush was in office (it's his rules and his "Patriot Act")??? Why didn't they take their AR-15s to Bush events? (too chickenshit).

Yeah, I don't like the checkpoints either. But I don't think they are there because of some plot by Obama to arrest everyone that doesn't have the correct "papers" (though I could believe it of "W").

And notice in the first radio interview, before "Chris" heads down to the event, what they ask him... "are you going to water the tree of liberty?" Another reference to that quote of Thomas Jefferson (taken out of context by the whackjobs on the extreme right). Just like the other gun toting asshole. Just like Tim McVeigh.

These people (right wing whack jobs) are gearing up to make the attempt. Maybe not today, but soon. Mark my words.

Yesterday MSNBC's Contessa Brewer tackled the rantings of Pastor Steven Anderson down at his strip-mall church in Tempe, Arizona, and examined the common-sense connection between this kind of hate-filled rhetoric and the people bringing guns to events featuring President Obama, as well as the various acts of domestic terrorism and right-wing violence that have accompanied the rise in this kind of talk.

The segment featured Evan Kohlmann, an NBC terrorism analyst, who remarked:

Kohlmann: Yeah, it's amazing that this kind of rhetoric is allowed if you're a certain kind of person, if you're a patriotic American you can say whatever you want, no matter how far along the line it comes to inciting people to violence towards other innocent people. It's completely unjustified.
