1. Are there still any among us that doubt that this is a fight for the life
Of this democracy?
Don't just dismiss them as waco nut jobs...they are far more dangerous that that.

4. Agreed.They lost power and are taking it to the streets as the only path left to regain power
8/07/09...From Facism: are we there yet at Crooks & Liars:

“…That description sounds eerily like the dire straits our Congressional Republicans find themselves in right now. Though the GOP has been humiliated, rejected, and reduced to rump status by a series of epic national catastrophes mostly of its own making, its leadership can't even imagine governing cooperatively with the newly mobilized and ascendant Democrats. Lacking legitimate routes back to power, their last hope is to invest the hardcore remainder of their base with an undeserved legitimacy, recruit them as shock troops, and overthrow American democracy by force. If they can't win elections or policy fights, they're more than willing to take it to the streets, and seize power by bullying Americans into silence and complicity.
When that unholy alliance is made, the third stage -- the transition to full-fledged government fascism -- begins.

Snip

“…the guessing game is over. We know beyond doubt that the Teabag movement was created out of whole cloth by astroturf groups like Dick Armey's FreedomWorks and Tim Phillips' Americans for Prosperity, with massive media help from FOX News. We see the Birther fracas -- the kind of urban myth-making that should have never made it out of the pages of the National Enquirer -- being openly ratified by Congressional Republicans. We've seen Armey's own professionally-produced field manual that carefully instructs conservative goon squads in the fine art of disrupting the democratic governing process -- and the film of public officials being terrorized and threatened to the point where some of them required armed escorts to leave the building. We've seen Republican House Minority Leader John Boehner applauding and promoting a video of the disruptions and looking forward to "a long, hot August for Democrats in Congress."
This is the sign we were waiting for -- the one that tells us that yes, kids: we are there now. America's conservative elites have openly thrown in with the country's legions of discontented far right thugs. They have explicitly deputized them and empowered them to act as their enforcement arm on America's streets, sanctioning the physical harassment and intimidation of workers, liberals, and public officials who won't do their political or economic bidding.
This is the catalyzing moment at which honest-to-Hitler fascism begins. It's also our very last chance to stop it..."

15. One of the Conservative tactics
is to portray the current administration or election as THE defining moment of our existence. "If we don't stop Obama now,..." My biggest concern is that one of the loyal listeners is going to hear them giving them the go-ahead to kill the president or Pelosi, for example.

17. I always think of what Eddie Murphy
used to say about what would happen to the first black president. I can't wait to say he was wrong about that.

8. Don't say it out loud! A lot of long-time DU'ers will come to *their* defense!
I've seen it before. A lot of DU-members will slam you for that opinion (which I agree with, by the way), to defend Fox and right-wing hate radio with the old "freedom of speech" straw-man.

to point out they were being sarcastic.

18. I agree in theory but I have seen
20 post sub threads when posters were trying to determine if the first comment was sarcasm or not. I would think that in my post's case if would be self evident but you never know.

19. And I really love the First Amendment, but I don't like it when it's abused...
...to spread hatred, inciting violence, calling for revolution, secession or overthrowing the government. You know, what happens on a daily basis on Fox News. What we call 'treason'.

20. While many here on DU call it treason and/or not protected speech
the current state of 1st amendment law is in disagreement with that position. Brandenburg v. Ohio, 395 U.S. 444 (1969), which is the current limits on free speech as delineated by the supreme court controls. The test has three parts intent, imminence, and likelihood. The problem with the broadcasts comes into proving the imminence prong usually.

6. What the HELL does Savage know about motorcycle groups???
Edited on Sun Aug-09-09 04:59 PM by moonbatmax
I mean, are motorcycle groups known for their conservative leanings?

I can't say I know much about them myself, so maybe they are,
but they never really struck me as... well... conservative.

Which way WOULD they lean on health care, I wonder...?

9. Boy! Are they scared of that black man!
This is about Health Care????

It's just the Health Care Industry pays the GOP who have decided to use the "bigot tactic"...what one used to call "the Southern Strategy" tho' it's not just Southern this time. But I don't think their numbers aren't as big as they pretend they are. Remember, Obama won by a land slide, and the House and Senate tipped mightily, not to mention 70% want Health Care reform. All this is why they sound so ridiculously frantic. All this end-of-you- way-of-life talk is akin to Y2K scares and the Militias during the Clinton Administration, No one thinks McVeigh was a hero. Y2K was a joke. Bush's dire warnings about Saddam and WMD all turned out to be crap and pursuing them has been an expensive disaster. A lot of people know this stuff now, and even tho' there seems to be a lot of these hate mongering nuts, they are a shrinking minority. If folks can remember stuff and put it together.... well, how many will fall for it again. The number may be big, but not anything near a majority.

But they are dangerous, and need to be called on it a lot more by the media and leaders in both parties.

I mean, Rush is on Armed Forces Radio!

10. Yes.
There are people here who believe that we can win this struggle with a little love and understanding. I think we'll see blood in the streets before this is resolved. I don't know exactly how one can be prepared for it, but I'm sure it's coming. If you take into account the mentality of the conservadroids, with their quest for ideological purity, violent conflict is inevitable. It's happened all over the world. We are not immune.

14. The message is
Don't bother discussing this, intimidate them into knuckling under. It is so deeply offensive to compare any human being to Hitler. Maybe some of these guys should be refreshed on the atrocities Hitler committed and be asked to show where Obama has mirrored them. WTF do they know about Nazi Germany or the Civil War? How many of us can attest to what it was actually like?
