Teabaggers yell "Kill Your Parents" at Monday's Health Care town hall with Rep. Steve Driehaus (D-OH)

"Kill your parents Steve," was one chant that was yelled at Rep. Steve Driehaus as he entered his car. Chris Johnson from Cincinnati took this video at a town hall being held at the First Unitarian Church.

The scene was no different at Monday's local town hall meeting at the First Unitarian Church here in Cincinnati with Rep. Steve Driehaus (D-OH). As you could see in my initial post on this topic, Driehaus was regularly interrupted by the crowd and at times had difficulty answering the questions as people insisted on shouting over him. "What about the illegals getting covered?" one man shouted, "You're lying!" shouted several others.

Driehaus pleaded for rationality and calm indicating that he wanted to have a good discussion with those who didn't agree with the plan, but couldn't do so if everyone insisted on shouting. A handful of people walked out two-thirds of the way through the forum complaining about socialism and indicating the the health care system did not need reforming. Several people wore tee-shirts with the web address of the Cincinnati Tea Party movement while others had signs objecting to, in their view, a government take-over of the health-care industry.

As the forum drew to a conclusion after a little over an hour, little had been accomplished. This had not been a thoughtful exchange of ideas but was rather a gathering of people who felt that the best way to move America forward was to prevent any rational and thoughtful debate. Participants who used buzz phrases indicating their opposition to "government control" and "socialized medicine" were cheered and when Driehaus even mentioned the words "single payer" or dared to question the deficit under President Reagan, he was called a liar and shouted down.

You will hear several moments where people are shouting "Vote for Chabot" in reference to long-time politician Steve Chabot whom Driehaus defeated in 2008 and will face once again in the next election. As the crowd runs over to Driehaus' car, you will also hear someone shout "Don't kill your parents Steve!" which is a reference to a story that Driehaus told during the forum about his personal struggle in determining end of life care for his now deceased father.

1. "prevent any rational and thoughtful debate"
Didn't Hitler and the Nazi's employ a similar tactic?

2. Don't know,
but Rush is comparing dems to Nazis. Tweety just showed a clip on his show.

4. I'd say that makes me right!
These idiots are projecting... they point the finger at the Left and scream...

Obama is ruining the country! (Bush already did that)

Obama is spending too much money! (Bush already did that)

And so on and so forth.

5. They underestimate the number of people who would like to kill their parents.
Seriously, do they think this will fly with anyone dealing with their parents' medical bills?

6. I am in a position to get reports from around the country. It's chilling.
Cool-headed leaders are frightened for their safety, let alone for their staffs and volunteers for those organizations conducting town halls or participating in them. The live blogging is frightening; the after-action reports worse. Rush and his ilk are openly calling us Nazis while encouraging brownshirt tactics of shouting down and threatening those with whom they disagree. Talk radio and Fox News are whipping these people into a frenzy; I listened to some of Savage on the way home tonight and he was shouting into the mike to go to these events and shout down your opponents.

It's race, and a changing America. Those who believe people like Rush and Savage will have no choice but to resort to violence. If Obama and Hitler are equivalent, their path is clear.

Their goal is death. But we outnumber them. This could mean death, alright - the death of the GOP.

9. Protesters
I am sick and tired of these loons disrupting things. Where the hell are the folks who are in favor of health care reform, sitting on their asses. I see these protests on TV and it's the same lunatic, right wingers who were out in force during Obama's campaign calling him a terrorist and all that other crap they threw out there. How about organizing counter protesters. The Republicans and the right love this. Their operatives are out there stirring up things and the Dems just sit back. They organize themselves like these knuckleheads have done and drown them out or show some cojones at these town hall meetings. Where are all these anti-war protesters and those who made some noise about the Bush-Cheney debacle. What scares me is as this goes on I can see the Republicans kicking some butt in the mid-year elections because they've screamed the loudest and have a full array of weapons in the media like Fox News, Rush, Hannity and every other right-wing nut job on the radio.

10. The Brownshirts are out in force.
Please go to President Obama's website and make a promise to attend these town hall meetings. I will be attending every one they send me, along with as many people as I can get to go.

This is actually considered proper discourse among these repubs? It's no wonder they got tossed out in droves in the last two major elections. From the numbers I have seen, they are going to have it even worse in 2010.

I can't wait to face these losers.

11. This is only going to get worse
Edited on Thu Aug-06-09 07:37 PM by Politicalboi
Can you imagine in 2010 or 2012 for that matter. They better start making rules and throwing disrupter's out, and fine their stupid asses. Or they better set these things up in CSPAN or online town halls. Is it going to take some nut with a gun before they make rules and hold to them. Had Dems done this during Bush's term, we would have been arrested and considered a terrorist. We need Obama to pre empt Wheel of Fortune and explain to gramps and grandma that they are not going to be killed by their doctors and they don't have to worry about their socialized medicine called Medicare.
