Sawyer sounds like he's still working for Sanford...Rachel points this out.

He still "believes" in what the Gov is doing. Isn't that special?

Was Sawyer fired for not keeping this scandal down?
Does he really hate Sanford but has agreed to still say nice things or he'll never work again?
Has he learned anything from all this? (no)
Did he really just say he can spend more time with his family?

This is a weird interview and Rachel picks up on it and call it out.

What do you all think is between the lines. Speculation welcome!

and have fun.

2. Who says Repubs don't learn?
They seem to have learned a lot about compassion and forgiveness since the Clinton impeachment.

3. I Got The Feeling That Rachel Was Set Up.......
I was thinking that perhaps he was booked on Rachel's show because somehow her producers thought that he would say some negative things about Sanford. Rachel seemed surprised when he was all warm and glowing about Sanford. I somehow think that Rachel and her producers were blindsided and that this was a set-up. Just my opinion. He seemed far to smug when he started to tout Sanford. Maybe this is the C Street Family way of getting back at Rachel.

4. I see your point
But I don't think he was successful. Rachel called his BS and even pointed out he sounded like he was still employed. I think she was surprised he obviously learned nothing. She also killed the talking point that calls for Clinton's Impeachment are "ancient history" and it was telling to hear him say " but Clinton lied!" after having just discussed how he had passed on Sandford's lies.

5. I kept wondering why Rachel had him on her show.
There was no way Sawyer was going to diss Sanford on teevee. He does believe what Sanford does. The interview turned out about like I expected.

6. My reading between the lines -- just a guess -- He was "let go" by Sanford,
got some cash and/or some business contacts as a settlement and going away present and has promised himself to try not to look like a loser. I heard that same old same old "spend more time with my family" code phrase. Means everyone has agreed that I wasn't fired.

If Sanford kept this guy on, then every time someone saw this guy's face, they would think of Sanford's affair and lies. So, the guy has to go in order for Sanford to put memories of Sanford's running away out of people's minds. Bad public relations to have this man representing Sanford.

Of course, Sanford can rationalize the dismissal (which was probably done in a very "nice," "Christian" manner by saying to himself that after all, this employee did not do a good job protecting his boss's secrets. (That's probably Sanford's view, however irresponsible it is).
