The beer summit has come and gone but frankly, the underlying issues still haven't really been touched. This video does a much better job of getting to the issues than the MSM is interested in. It's long but does get to the root of what needs to be discussed if we're going to ever get over our problems with race as a country.

1. This social worker is wonderful. I love his question-how are you?
And I like his message-equality. I only listened to this once, but would need to listen again, because he said so much. One important point he made was the business of county government, and how in some areas, it was more powerful than city govt. If this is true, then current Milwaukee co. executive wants to make sure that no one ever gets a chance to strengthen what he is destroying. Republican Scott Walker the current county executive wants to dismantle the co. government. He has prevented the Mayor from creating a rail system. Taken money from the budget for mental health and imprisoned the mentally ill and sent that money to the prisons. He is in the process of selling off the airport to private owners.

Well anyways, this social worker has some interesting points about perception of color and gender.

2. It is this perception that I think is the key to the problems of race in this country
The problem is at least, when it comes to a discussion of race is that we don't seem to get into that rather we gloss over it in favor of the outrage du jour which frankly is only covering a very shallow bit of the surface. But then a lot of the discussions in American politics tends to be rather shallow and that's also part of the problem.

As to things like municipal services, it seems to me that at least looking at the Republican mindset, as it's the most blatant in its racism, is that the reason why they don't really want things like mass transit, and universal health care, free college education (which used to exist once upon a time in this country) is because, in addition to being against the interests of their corporate masters, if we have these things available to all people, black and brown people will also take advantage of it. And deep down in their heart of (stone) hearts they know that the privilege they enjoy (and the riches that comes with it) is wholly unearned and if they had to compete on a true even playing field they'd find themselves lacking.
