KSDK -- With shouting protesters at the door, U.S. Congressman defended the cash for clunkers program today at St. Louis' McMahon Ford.

Rep. Carnahan talked about the popularity of the program and the progress in the pursuit for $2 billion in additional funding.

Groups outside were demonstrating against government spending. They held up signs against cash for clunkers as well as the proposed health care reform.

Carnahan was the co-sponsor of the original piece of legislation to get the cash for clunkers program started. He says the government is close to approving more funding to help people get rid of their gas-guzzlers and get into more fuel-efficient and environmentally better cars.

The rebate program gives consumers up to $4,500 to trade in old cars for more fuel-efficient vehicles.

I applaud the town hall meetings. I appreciate the Congressmen getting out and meeting with the public.

But something has to be done about screaming nut balls that come equipped with big mouths and no ears.

I'd walk out as soon as the meeting got rowdy. Either we would have give and take with question and answers and information, or we'd NOT have a meeting.

And as stated earlier, this was NOT a town hall meeting. This was a press conference. Damn these repukes are ignorant butt holes.

And I applaud what he did but wish he would have said the following:

"Thank you to the members of the press, now I am going to ask that the people outside who can show me identification as citizens of this district be allowed to meet with me off-camera to give me their views on the important issues facing the country now."

At which point he should have had an aide there with the complete mailing address roles of everyone in his district (I know its a HUGE district) that could verify which of the people were REALLY there to see THEIR congressman and which of the people were really being PAID to be there BY their CORPORATE / IDEOLOGUE paymasters.

Democracy only works with an informed citizenry and free exchange of ideas. These Tea-baggers are interested in neither - they parrot back the claims of their masters and shout down anyone who disagrees. Well, this ain't Florida 2000 any more! I personally plan to fidn the next event and confront these people nose to nose if I have to but this WILL NOT STAND! Not in my country! We took back the government in November and this August is when we take back the public discourse as well!
