From the final episode of "The Chaser's War on Everything," aired July 29 in Australia.

Warning: Probably would be rated TV-MA: Language in the USA.

20. That's funny, people believe the bible because:
1. They have never read it.(see 4)

2. They've read some of it, but can't understand it or anything else they read.(see 4)

3. They're just lying, they don't believe a word of it but they make a ton of $$ pretending they're "believers".

4. They're just plain stupid.

I can't get past the belief that the earth is 6600 years old.I know extremely educated people, including engineers that believe this.

17. I know what you mean...
I used to car pool with another teacher who is hard core right wing. I still work with her, and we agreed a long itme ago that rational people can disagree on issues, so we get along just fine. I asked her about this once, did she really believe the earth was only 6600 years old? She hemmed and hawed a little bit, and finally asked where were all these fossils that supported a 5 billion year old earth. Since we live outside of Vegas, and this area used to be under water, we have shell fossils all over the place, so she knew she was putting up a weak defense. Her head told her the earth is billions of years old, but her belief system demanded she accept, without question, that it's only 6000.

25. Training is not...
the same thing as education. I truly believe that once colleges and universities stopped requiring liberal arts: history, literature, philosophy, art and music the die was cast. Now our children spend 4 very expensive years in school to train for narrow-focused employment. I have known far too many "college" educated people who have not read or thought about anything other than romance novels or the latest consumer trend and are no more able to reason than the often maligned high school drop-out. They don't think grander thoughts because their jobs don't require them to. They are Deltas masquerading as Alphas.

19. Although rational people understand the symbolism
the lunatic fringe adheres to fairy tales and superstition.
That the Courts use a book of fairy tales as the basis for affirming the truth speaks volumes about American idiocy. Hell, we just had a president who said God told him to invade Iraq and a significant number of Americans took it at face value.
Marx was right about religion. It's a crutch for those who can't handle hallucinogens.

22. Whenever I see a "look how dumb Americans are" bit on world TV
I wonder if they ever ask similar questions of the idiots in their own back yards. Australia is just as full of dumbasses as anywhere else.

24. I dunno! But whether they do or not,
Australians don't vote in U. S. elections. The religious madness of many Americans can't be dismissed merely because those in media, whether domestic or foreign, don't ask citizens of other nations the same questions asked of our willfully ignorant.

I hate to see American ignorance, particularly willful ignorance, on public display. Still, there could be some therapeutic effect result from exposing it to the "light". I don't support the suggestion that we ignore American failings merely because similar failings in other countries haven't been exposed.

As they say, put up or shut up. Either you believe it or you don't. But they just believe the parts that suit them.

Beautifully done!:yourock:
