1. why? Because investors don't want to work for a living
or work as hard to make the money they make off the dying and sick. People are a commodity to these folks.

2. The Heartless Conservative Would Say
'Because they're too lazy to work hard and buy their own damn insurance. Why should I pay for their laziness and poor planning? Most uninsured people choose to be that way, they're illegals or people in their 20's. If we pay for them by punishing those who work hard and play by the rules, these people will never have an incentive to improve their lives'.

What do you think, does that sound about right?

5. exactly right
can't tell you how many times I hear that ridiculous argument. As if the poor/lazy brought down this economy and are the fault of the recession we are now in. I also got "they're volunteers" when I was screaming about them sending the National Guard to Iraq.
I'm also getting the "expanding government" battlecry. What that has to do with a public option escapes me.

6. It's important to explain the difference between actual "socialized medicine" and SP vs. a Public Op
The VA *is* socialized medicine. Everything, including hiring and firing of doctors and purchasing of equipment, is handled by the government.

Even most single payer plans out there would not be accurately described as "socialized medicine". At best you can say they involve "socialized insurance". I've made this point for some time (as have others of course), but it's important to keep repeating it so that the moderates in our lives catch on and maybe we can shut up some on the right, at least until they come up with a new frame.

This is why it was a mistake to frame the debate as "healthcare reform" rather than the much more accurate health insurance reform. I know the Obama Admin just did that, but it might be too late.

Great point about health insurance reform. Just tucked that one away for the next round.

14. Don't forget about 'bootstraps'
Some conservatives love to talk about the whole 'bootstrap' thing. "These people need to pull themselves up by their bootstraps. They don't need affordable health care, they need more bootstraps!!" Or instead, why don't uninsured people do what those conservatives do, make a good living by lying and smearing everything and everyone they don’t agree with? Being a soulless media whore is good business and comes with a great health care plan.

As for private health care, it’s an absolute joke, even for a healthy, non-smoking 30-something like me. After looking at some of the plans, buying a new BMW would be cheaper, and with a BMW I could at least get to the ER quickly (where I would supply false personal info and discharge myself ASAP).

7. well, that guy was a shill
It's so hard to have a conversation about this with people from the corporatocracy, because they are so fundamentally dishonest about everything.

10. But Thom can listen, converse and refute with a lot more respect than most of us!
Sometimes I get so mad as he listens to these idiots, but I still see him LISTENING, then coming back with a sensible, honest, true agrument - but these same idiots NEVER will LISTEN back to a true debate.

11. lol
I know the feeling. They try to talk over him. I liked Thom's piece he did on the two Santa Clauses. I posted it here and kept it in my journal. Outstanding article explaining how we've conned for 30 years by the fat cats in the GOP.
