In the beginning, it started out as a few exceptionally wacky GOP soldiers claiming that President Obama wasn't actually born in America, and that he refused to release his birth certificate to prove it. In spite of the fact that Obama was born in the US and that his birth certificate was available to anyone who wished to view it, these few right wing fringe freaks managed to convince countless Americans that our president is a Kenyan extremist set on a path to destroy our country. To make matters worse, the so-called mainstream press is now reporting this story. Mike Papantonio of Air America's Ring of Fire sets the record straight in this week's Pap Attack.

2.  about Andy Martin
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/13/us/politics/13martin.html

The most persistent falsehood about Senator Barack Obama’s background first hit in 2004 just two weeks after the Democratic convention speech that helped set him on the path to his presidential candidacy: “Obama is a Muslim who has concealed his religion.”

That statement, contained in a press release, spun a complex tale about the ancestry of Mr. Obama, who is Christian.

The press release was picked up by a conservative Web site, FreeRepublic.com, and spread steadily as others elaborated on its claims over the years in e-mail messages, Web sites and books. It continues to drive other false rumors about Mr. Obama’s background.
