I just saw this on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEFoq_5RbC4">Youtube, what a great idea. If anyone has some good feedback, send it it.
Acclaimed filmmaker Michael Moore's new documentary sets out to investigate the American healthcare system. Michael wants YouTube members to share your Healthcare Horror Stories and tell us about an experience you had with your healthcare insurance company. This is the group where you can post your videos to share with Michael, who will be screening them and sharing them with Congress.

To see how other Americans rated their insurance companies, visit http://sicko-movie.com/about.

1. No he doesn't.
He would not like to hear what I'd have to say.

to refrain from submitting a video. I may be assuming too much but hopefully your displeasure means you have had wonderful experiences with healthcare to date. For many others though, I'm sure there are stories of frustration and difficulty in dealing with your health insurance provider.

3. It's mostly because I find Moore a didactic, manipulative, intellectually dishonest filmmaker...
Edited on Wed Jun-06-07 04:27 PM by Richardo
But, yes, I have generally had very positive experiences with health care in the US. I doubt you'll see any stories like mine in his 'documentary'.

4. and thankfully, many more people feel the opposite
Unfortunately, the fact is, Congress doesn't give a shit what the American public thinks until it's time for them to get re-elected and that's what the American public doesn't get. They only care what their large donation contributors to their campaigns think.

Like U2 sang in "Desire": "it's a promise in the year of election..."

5. I don't agree
with everything Moore says and does, but I see eye to eye with him in acknowledging we have a problem in this country with our healthcare system and applaud him for making this film as a, "call to action."

I would still recommend seeing Sicko before we make judgments. If you haven't read it, here is the Fox News http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,273875,00.html">review. It may appeal to you that Moore lets the stories do the talking.

Filmmaker Michael Moore's brilliant and uplifting new documentary, "Sicko," deals with the failings of the U.S. healthcare system, both real and perceived. But this time around, the controversial documentarian seems to be letting the subject matter do the talking, and in the process shows a new maturity.

Unlike many of his previous films ("Roger and Me," "Bowling for Columbine," "Fahrenheit 9-11"), "Sicko" works because in this one there are no confrontations. Moore smartly lets very articulate average Americans tell their personal horror stories at the hands of insurance companies. The film never talks down or baits the audience.

"This film is a call to action," Moore said at a press conference on Saturday. "It's also not a partisan film."

6. That does sound like a welcome departure. Staged 'confrontations' are the worst...
...part of his films.

Always best to let the story tell itself and leave your sledgehammer in the tool shed.

9. but his "sledgehammer" is what is so much fun!
I love how he confronted auto execs in Flint and elsewhere. I can't lie. Someone needs to do it, and even though it has become a cliche to some extent, I am glad that he tackles stuff that no one else will.

10. It was fresh in 'Roger and Me'
I like that he tackles stuff too - I just prefer a 'Frontline' kind of style rather than the more hysteric approach.

Edited on Wed Jun-06-07 06:28 PM by ProudDad
as one of the 46,000,000 uninsured can I borrow some of your coverage if I get sick.

How pleasant it must be for you to be able to say 'fuck you' to the huge number of us in this benighted, selfish country who have no insurance or who are severely under-insured.

15. I have a sister-in-law who has received 2 kidney transplants and a pancreas
Edited on Wed Jun-06-07 07:13 PM by Richardo
...all on Medicare. She was 30 when this started. The kidneys have failed and she's on 3-days-per week dialysis - until she gets a 3rd transplant 5 years from now - if she's lucky. She recently had two fingertips amputated due to circulation problems. She's on constant pain mediacation. And I thank all my fellow US citizens for paying for her care, since she can't. The system has worked for her.

I'm not saying 'fuck you' to anyone. I understand there is a problem. I'm a proponent of universal health care. But I think Michael Moore's an ass who does more harm than good.

Edited on Wed Jun-06-07 09:41 PM by Mind_your_head
covered under Medicare for people under 65. IIRC, I ran across this little tidbit while doing some research for my elderly mother's care and thought to myself "that's weird"/"I wonder why kidneys & dialysis should be such an exception?" If you're under 65 and have any other problem, Medicare can't help ya, you're shit-out-of-luck as they say. How 'fortunate' that your sis had the ONLY problem that Medicare would cover.

You said: "I think Michael Moore's an ass who does more harm than good."

Instead of calling people names unnecessarily, please explain why you believe MM 'does more harm than good'.

18. Instead of dissing Michael Moore
who is someone actually doing something about the HORRENDOUSLY inadequate and unfair system of medical "care" in the U.S. (which consists of shoveling hundreds of BILLIONS of dollars at corporate criminals!), or crowing about your coverage and that of your family, why don't you get on board with Universal Single Payer -- HR676 introduced by John Conyers?

If you already are, those of us who are one illness or accident away from being totally wiped out and ending up in the street thank you.

By any judge except the health care given the richest of the rich (maybe), the U.S. has one of the WORST set of outcomes of any industrialized nation and is the ONLY one that doesn't cover all of its people.

HOW CAN YOU POSSIBLY JUSTIFY THAT???????????

19. name-calling
Unfortunately, you just wasted any credibility you might have had by calling the poster, who made an exceptionally interesting point, a name.

I was going to make some points about Michael Moore to you but I won't waste my time.

21. Poster said that a relative of mine is 'fortunate' to have a life threatening disease.
I actually toned down my response from my original reaction.

Enjoy your Michael Moore movie. I'm sure you and the rest of the liberal fanbase will find it very enlightening, and everyone else will dismiss it out of hand as more ranting by a clownish blowhard.

23. Let me guess
Employer paid health care?

OR

Never spent more than 2 days in a hospital?

OR

Under 40?

So do you have any major health concerns?

And BTW, he did ask for horror stories. Perhaps you should submit your stories to the health insurance lobby organizations, so they can include them in their lobbying talking points.

What was our rating among nations of the world again?

I just think Moore is a crappy messenger. I'd rather see an Al Gore film on healthcare than Michael Moore's.

11. Oprah wants to hear from you, too
Michael Moore was on her show yesterday.

Oprah wants to hold a townhall meeting later this year. She is asking for people to write (don't write if you don't want to be on national TV.)

He's also a coward, this video was his reply to M. Moore's request for a live debate -- but freddie boy's too chicken for that.
