I remember when 'We are the World' first came out, but I had not realized the Michael Jackson had done other 'political' videos. Above I posted a few that I have come across over the past couple of days - I am sure there must be more, if anyone knows of other 'political videos' that Michael release then please post the links in the comments area.

During the Obama primary I sorta just didn't think about it and thought to myself that the Will.i.am video 'Yes We Can' must have been the first 'video' that had mass appeal and one that had a great impact on the masses (I am not talking about other 'song' videos such as from John Lennon, Bob Dylan, etc. that had a 'political message' I mean more of the composition of the video itself) so now I am rethinking what I previously thought. I am starting to think that perhaps some Michael Jackson's work that he did in his life might have a larger impact on the world now that he is no longer with us than it did while he was alive once people go back and take a second look at his library.

p.s. While watching the news and going back and watching some of MJ's videos (that I had not seen in decades and some I had never seen before) over the past few days, it seems to me, even though MJ was an original - that Michael Jackson had a sprinkle of Fred Astaire, Elvis, Liberace, James Brown, Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross, Mickey Mouse (the white glove), and Peter Pan all mixed together into him. In my opinion this was not by accident, but something that Michael was talented enough to incorporate into his public persona.

p.s.s. Hopefully others in the music business and in the political arena will continue the fight of the world's 'H' issues: Hunger, Homelessness, and Health.

6. Wow! Just Wow!
As a former school teacher I wonder how those that participated in the video feel about the experience now.

How many can now play and enjoy an instrument?

How many learned how to organize a group of people to make a positive change in their condition?

How many felt a new sense of worth that someone so important would take the time to express how the world should feel about them?

Wow!

8. Another video, Be Not Always
Careful, this one will make you cry if you love Michael. The political part of the song comes around the three-and-a-half minute mark. "How can we claim to stand for peace when the nations are in strife . . . destroying life?"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYpLkge9-sw

The final line blows me away every time. "Death promises."

9. Charity
Charity:
Michael has been supporting charity all his life. Best known charities are: The Ronald Mc Donald children foundation, The make a wish foundation, Childright, etc., etc. In 1984 Michael opens his own burning center after he suffers severe burns to his scalp during a commercial shoot for Pepsi. In 1985 Michael writes the song "We are the World" to help the hungry people in Africa. In 1992 Michael starts with the "Heal the World foundation". A foundation that helps the needy children of the world.

"The Guinness Book of World Records 2000 Millennium Edition" includes the following entry: Most Charities Supported By a Pop Star Michael Jackson has supported 39 charitable organizations either with monetary donations through sponsorships of their projects or by participating in their silent auctions. The charities involved include AIDS Project L.A., American Cancer Society, BMI Foundation, Inc., Childhelp USA, United Negro College Fund (UNCF), YMCA - 28th Street/Crenshaw, The Sickle Cell Research Foundation and Volunteers of America.

15. Thank you for posting this.
I was unaware of this thread when I posted a link to "Earth Song." His passing has caused me to evaluate his impact on the world and I have no doubt now that it was huge.

16. Me too...
I had no idea of the impact he had on the world through his donations to charities.
And there were several of his videos that I had never taken a look at before his death.
I am hoping that they will restore Neverland and turn it into a museum.
I was never a 'fanatic' fan, but I think that even I would make a trip out there in order to see all of his antiques, costumes, art, and memorabilia that he collected over the years.

I came across a site the other day (can't remember where) and they had several videos from all over the world of his fans in the street dancing and remembering Michael. It is really amazing that he has touched so many people in every corner of the world.

17. I hope that you get to make that trip!
One thing I have noticed about Jackson's fans is their joyousness, even in mourning. That is such a great testament to the effect he had on so many people.
