Pat took some ridiculous jabs at Sotomayor, suggesting she didn't earn her awards at Princeton and making some insulting jokes. But when they unveiled their 'English Only' conference banner, there was a small problem that no one noticed and the joke was on them...

By the way; people who speak multiple languages; actually have documented cerebral growth. (Bigger Brains; as in Brain plasticity). I.E. They are smarter. Multiple languages should be encouraged. You also learn more culture and become less ignorant and provincial.

I think I'd prefer that. Once upon a time I thought about latin, but we couldn't get enough to join. Spanish? that would be last on the list. More like French, Russian, and German or Bosnian. Poetic languages.

9. I took Spanish for 4 years

in High school...'71-'79. 1st...that's way too late to start. and second, we only spoke Spanish in class. At that time, there was no Spanish to be seen or heard in VA.

Consequently....I cannot speak Spanish.

It's very different today. If I coulda watched Univision or the like back in High School... seen and heard people conversing in the language... I'd be able to speak it now. I can practically "get" what's going on on Univision even with the crappy language education I got. I know a bit of Italian from the classical music I listen to. Some Latin from church music. Some German from Bach. French from just movies and everyday English usage of French terms.

I mean, how could one NOT already know a bit from some other languages?

Unless you're like my dumb-bunny friends who won't watch a subtitled film.

Then there's English itself. Witness the folks here who get all bent outta shape because you pointed out "seams" is not the same word as "seems"... not to mention "to", "too", and "two"!
