6. He nailed it
This is exactly what I've been preaching to people. America's political bent goes in cycles. In the late 19th Century, up to the Depression, America was consistently shifting to the Right. Once the Depression hit, there was an inexorable shift back to the Left that culminated in Richard Nixon presiding over the implementation of such mainstays of liberal politics as the EPA, OSHA and the Clean Air Act. The Vietnam War and the freedom of "hippie" culture in the late '60s began the shift back. This was only intensified through the '80s and '90s, as first Reagan, and then a "Centrist" Bill Clinton, held sway. With George W. Bush, the shift to the Right shoved the pendulum a little farther than just about anyone would have expected, and now we are starting to move back. But don't believe for a second that Barack Obama (I voted for him in the primaries, too) is a "true" liberal. Just like Nixon would have probably been more closely identified as a Democrat today, Obama would have been identified as a Republican in the '60s and '70s. We're on our way back, but anyone who claims our politics is to the Left of Center right now isn't paying attention.

If it's a scale of L100 (complete anarchy) to R100 (totalitarianism), we're somewhere around a R30 right now. W. pushed it to around R60, and it's going to take more time to move the needle back beyond the 0 mark.

7. I certainly hope...

...that we don't repeat the same mistake made by Republicans - telling the moderates in our party to take a hike. They will take a hike and become Republicans!!! Who wants that? The centrist and independants aren't loyal to us, or them, and never will. We must get over that or educate them better. Embrace the center Dems, because they can be center Republicans with the slightest shove. Then, it's 2004 all over again.

11. "These aren't radical ideas-
a majority of Americans are either already for them or would be if they were properly argued and defended." every day I'm feeling more and more duped by the Dems.
