George Will Calls Right-Wing Iran Attacks on Obama “Foolish”George Will may not know much about climate change or bicycle commuting but I think he’s mostly been a voice of reason on foreign policy issues relative to most conservative pundits. Today was no exception as he called out his colleagues for “foolish criticism” of the President’s approach to Iran:

The president is being roundly criticized for insufficient, rhetorical support for what’s going on over there. It seems to me foolish criticism. The people on the streets know full well what the American attitude toward the regime is. And they don’t need that reinforced.

It’s worth keeping in mind that the people trying to loudly position themselves as the Iranian people’s greatest friends are the exact same people who wanted to drop bombs on Iranians just a couple of weeks ago.

2. Yeah. Will's a fuckwad.
Point is ... this attack on Obama is even too "fuckwaddy" for him. That puts things into perspective, at least.

7. What else could he say?
I mean, this wasn't Faux, where is it sufficient to yammer on vaguely about socialism and such. In this venue, there;s a very good chance that if he criticized Obama's approach, somebody would ask, "OK, then tell us a better plan." and of course he doesn't have one. So he took the smart course. He's considerably smarter than your average conservative.

11. That just means he's more devious.
A conservative can be well-informed or have a good moral foundation but never both. Thats what separates the pundits and politicians from the members of their voting base.

12. The tallest midget in the room
And that might be his strategy. With people like William Buckley and William Rusher getting older and dying, it can be a great niche to be seen as one of those rare birds, thinking conservatives.

It is a niche that will never be challenged by Limbaugh, Savage, Faux or any of them.
