1. Stop kissing her ass, Dave!
You only had to explain the joke to the dumbasses.

4. wow
bad reaction. That was all class. Apologizing was doing the right thing. Doing the right thing is by no means ass-kissing.

The joke made me cringe and I did understand it. This doesn't make Dave a bad guy...or make Sarah a hero. Palin has gone on to use the joke as a means of keeping her kids in the public spotlight, as usual. So in this case, they were both been wrong.

But it is the reaction that separates the two of them. After introspection Dave sees what happened, and does the right thing. He apologizes like an adult. Palin, who should just accept the apology and get her kids out of the limelight, goes on to use it as a political campaign tool for a week. She ensures her children will continue to be a spectacle. She could have taken the high road but she is almost completely incapable of doing that. Amazingly, she comes out of this looking even worse.

3. Dave
I agree with you, but I also think he looked very, very thoughtful and is a better man for the experience. That message came from his heart and I don't think its necessarily a bad thing for someone as powerful as Letterman is to occasionally be forced to take a second look at what he says and does. I think it helps to keep him grounded. It would be nice if Sarah Palin had an ounce of that same thoughtfulness. If she did, she would never have accepted the VP slot and allowed her pregnant daughter to be dragged into the media spotlight.

6. And I agree with you...
Letterman really is a class act. I've been in his studio audience and he really impressed me. He was very warm and, despite his years on TV, really seemed to appreciate all of us who turned out. He even came out after the show and thanked us for coming, unnecessary, but thoughtful nonetheless. :applause:

As for his apologies, I have no doubt that this came from the heart. He even made a point of calling the daughters by their extremely unusual, but correct, names. He's terrible at names, though it's part of his shtick. He's a stand up guy, LOL, while Palin has milked this, blowing it all out of proportion, turning it into something unsavory that Letterman never said or meant, just for publicity. I would think her daughters would be embarrassed much more by what she's said than by Letterman's joke. x(
