2. "Corporations and their incredible strength are what have ruined this country so far."
Amen, Bill.

For the hearing impaired, here's some of what he says (boldfacing is mine):

I don't know if it's bipartisanship I'm so concerned with as caving in to corporations and lobbyists.

I mean, the track record so far is not good. We did an editorial on our show Friday night that was pretty hard-hitting about Obama not putting it on the line and standing up to the energy companies, the health care industry, the banks. And previously when I had criticized Obama in front of my -- you've been on our show, our very liberal Southern California audience -- they were booing me. You know, my crowd in my studio booing me, which is fine. But on Friday night, I was expecting the boos, and they weren't booing anymore. They were cheering.

I think they're getting to the point where they're realizing, "Yeah, we still like Obama. He's our guy. We're glad he's President, but where's the beef?"

And, it's easy to make speeches. What's hard to do is stand up against corporations. Corporations and their incredible strength are what have ruined this country so far. And this President, we thought, might be the one to stand up to them.

I'm losing hope. I still have audacity, but my hope is fading.

7. KO did a "me"....
Ever say something you think needs a clever punctuation mark, and after you said it, you realize it made little to no sense?

What was that line at the end about having Stalin put on the rubber gloves to do the prostate exam? I had to chuckle at that, cause either I don't get it, or there was nothing there to get. I think the latter.

11. The joke about Stalin was making fun of the...
Usual RW talking point that any form of universal health care would be like communist state run HC. The double-meaning of the joke was that heath care is so expensive that many would be happy to have a free prostate exam even if administered by stalin.

and how going against it is no good for the people or even some lobbyists. Now I've seen teh clip it shows that Mahar didn't actually see what was said by the President. I can see in part how yeah let's give Republicans hell but going that way only ever entrenched them further Barack is using diplomacy to get out of the trenches. President Obama's final destination is a more civil government where fair decisions are made without 2 parties drifting further and further apart. Bush's way seems effective but long term gives a very divisive government which doesn't work for anyone. We in the end opposed Bush for ruling in the style of a dictator, President Obama listened to us on that.

16. Wow, I love that line:
"I voted for this man but this is not the man I voted for". I just might make that a bumper sticker to let folks know how many progressives feel. I could not agree more with Bill.

I saw many here at DU very angry at Maher when he said this on his show Friday and it kind of shocked me. I actually think Bill Maher is saying OUT LOUD what many of us have been thinking!

18. Maher says it accurately, yet people still want to make excuses, Fuck the republicans is what
Maher is saying and put forth the agenda the people vote the Dems (Obama) in for...NOTHING will get done as we seen FDR Truman Carter Clinton all try to get public health care passed if Obama doesn't stop worrying about health care than it'll never get done for us...

The insurances companies/republicans are using the same old scare tactics that it will fail and as ALWAYS the stupid fucking Dems believe the republicans lies and motives!

WE want a public option for Universal Health care NOW!

19. Maher is just saying it earlier than most, hopefully Obama will also say FUCK the republicans
Edited on Tue Jun-16-09 02:09 PM by GreenTea
they've strangled public policy for too many years in favor of corporations - get public option health care done now as well as the full progressive agenda, the Dems don't need the republicans to get it done.

The republican will always use scare tactics and fear to stop it as they've done for far too many years, that's all they have is threats and the spineless Dems keep falling for the bluff. - Maher is absolutely correct!
