(A beautiful film, so sincere and real).

The Passion of Joan of Arc (French: La Passion de Jeanne d'Arc) is a silent film produced in France in 1928. It is based on the trial records of Joan of Arc. The film was directed by Carl Theodor Dreyer and stars Renée Jeanne Falconetti and Antonin Artaud. It is widely regarded as a landmark of cinema.

1. A remarkable film
This ranks as one of the greatest silent films. Fortunately, it gets played from time to time on Turner Classic Movies along with many other singularly notable silents like "Greed" and "The Wind."

3. Yes, it's a landmark film. Shows what silents could do. Ever see any of the great Russian siltents
so many.

4. I don't recall any Russian Silents
But I bet there are some good ones. I don't think I have ever been brought into a silent film as I was with this one. I think it is because the male actors are all so real, no makeup, and they are completely believable to me. All their hypocrisy and need to dominate written all over their faces, along with their slyness and intelligence.

5. Alexander Nevsky comes to mind, music by Prokoffiev.
I took a long semester's worth of silent film in college and we spent the first six or eight weeks watching Russian silents. I loved them and, subsequently only remember that one off the top of my head.

6. this film was believed lost for about 70 years
like so many other silents.

it was only in the 1990s that a surviving copy turned up in a european hospital's closet

which gives me a little hope that Theda Bara's 'Cleopatra' is still out there, or that the lost footage of orson Welles' "magnificent Amberson" will turn up someday.
