MSNBC Countdown w/ KEITH OLBERMANN - May 14, 2009: Keith talks with ex-CIA officer Jack Rice about the GOP's attempt to distract from the Bush-Cheney torture program with Nancy Pelosi.
Keith reports on The Daily Beast report "Cheney's Role Deepens." According to Charles Duelfer, former chief of Iraq Survey Group, "To those who wanted or suspected a relationship (the captured prisoner, a head of one of Saddam Hussein's secret police organizations Khudyar), he would have been a guy would know, so (White House officials) had particular interest." Duelfer says he heard from "some in Washington at very senior levels (not in the CIA) thought Khudyar's interrogation had been "too gentle" and suggested another route, one that they believed has proven effective elsewhere. "They asked if enhanced measures, such as waterboarding, should be used."
Two senior intelligence officials from that time say the suggestion came from the office of Mr. Cheney.
