2. My mother in her later years constantly worried if she would be able to continue to afford health
care. I never dreamed that I would one day be in that same position.

I entirely understand what you are talking about.

5. That stinks. Our local hospital has a service where a counselor will sit down and review various
health plans and try to help you find an affordable one that will meet your needs.
The one that was supposedly the most affordable - was too expensive for me. I told the counselor well it looks like I won't be able to buy any health insurance at all. She said try to buy something because if you get sick your medical bills will come and take everything you got one way or another.

I sure hope we get a single-payer plan established in this country. It would make a world a difference in many people's lives including my own.

18. Many people NEVER have had health care. Universal, single-payer, non-profit
is the only acceptable solution.

Why should insurance companies get 1/3 of the money for doing nothing that makes people healthier!

7. SOMEONE ORGANIZE A RALLY ON WASHINGTON!
like something huge where 100s of thousands of people could come together and stand at the Lincoln Memorial and call on Pres. Obama to implement single-payer. I think enough Americans are angry and afraid of what could happen to them financially if they were to have a sudden health problem. let's all go to Washington and big pharma and all who want to profit on the sickness of others will be silenced.

8. If they can drumbeat for war, it's only a natural balance to drumbeat for single payer.

It's not to say there aren't other fine activists out there, just someone in healthcare holds a lot of weight in the debate.

10. When I hear these Rethugs telling me
that I don't want "bureacrats" or the government coming inbetween me and my healthcare, it makes me so angry. I am on Medicare from being on SSDI, if I didn't have this I wouldn't have any kind of health care, which I didn't have for a number of years. I love government health care, thank god for it. Screw these people who don't have to worry about not having health care, some of us could and do literally die from not having it. I had a health scare last year and if I werent on Medicare I would have been left twisting in the wind.

California Nurses Association..it's good to hear from those who are actually in the field and can attest to the conditions of a failed health care system.

16. I heard a story recently that has me crying and infuriated...
About a woman who lost her job and with it, health care.

She has two kids, both with sickle cell anemia.

In order to afford their care, she had to take on the one job that would pay a woman enough to afford these kinds of costs: Prostitution.

This is an outrage.  :nuke:

17. I just sent a letter to the White House,
and I hope that it is added to many, many other voices. So many and so loud that Obama will take notice. This is such a disappointment. Like I said in the letter - this is just like Big Oil writing the energy policies. When is it going to stop?

I sometimes daydream that we could take away the healthcare from the House, Senate, and Executive branch and make them have to pay out of pocket. But at a rate that would reflect what all of us serfs experience so they have to really lose sleep. Healthcare vs. house, food, utilities. So that most of these folks wouldn't be able to afford healthcare, but make just enough money to be denied any state assistance. I'm sure we'd have single payer within a few months.

There was a Mad TV skit a few years ago where a regular guy woke up in the White House after a bender and didn't know how or why he was there. Upon asking the Secret Service Agent what was going on, he found out that he was President. He actually made some awesome changes - my favorite: gave the leaders of some of the world's largest corporations cancer - had several different cures within months. (http://www.planetmadtv.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4856)

Maybe that's what needs to happen, and if so, we're screwed. Some of our illustrious leaders and reps come from moneyed and privileged backgrounds and have probably always been out of touch with the realities the vast majority of us face. What really makes me irate are those who have "come from the people" and abandoned their roots, convictions, whatever good part of them it was that inspired them into public service. I know some just joined for the power, but those who have let themselves get swept up and traded our trust for cash make me sick.

Sorry I'm rambling...just had to let off some steam.
