He seemed to give out a talking point to the Democrats that they can use effectively should she be in the running - but could be Dems already knew that so just pointing it out here.

1. I turned it off after I saw Ingraham.
She's right below Malkin and Coulter on my list.

2. Laura Ingraham doesn't belong on the panel.
She's too much of an emotional partisan. Kristol is partisan too, but at least he can be respected for his intellect and someone who tries to be objective, about politics at least. If you're going to have Ingraham ,you might as well have Michael Savage and Ann Coulter too.

I think Bush 1 knew what kind of judge Souter would be. And I think Ive read that people did know that Souter was at least a moderate. Bush 1 gave Thomas to the conservatives and Souter to the moderates; thats when there was moderate wing of the republican party.

Don't know enough about Sotomayor yet. I dont like her position on the 2nd Amend though. She seems too much against gun rights. I think Id prefer Kathleen Sullivan. But I doubt Obama would want the controversy of nominating a lesbian judge.

4. I believe you are right.
Bush knew full well what kind of a judge Souter would be. The last thing in the world the Republicans want is to overturn Roe vs Wade.

7. Judge Souter was advanced to Bush I by John Sununu
Bush I chief of staff at the time John Sununu is the principal player in getting fellow Granite Stater David Souter appointed to the Supreme Court. Sununu was governor of NH and knew Dave Souter well believing he'd be a great NH jurist on the supreme court. Bush I though intellectually lazy let John Sununu have his way for delivering N.H. to him in the presidential primary and the election that followed.

John Sununu appointed Souter and Bush I simply facilitated the move for him.

10. Thats a good point.
It could have been payback, and also Bush looking forward to the next election. He puts Souter on then he's very likely going to win NH.

5. Bush 1 gave Thomas to the conservatives and Souter to the moderates;
Yes, EVERYBODY, and I mean everybody knew Thomas was (and still is) unqualified to be on the Supreme Court, so Souter was the compromise.

8. Sotomayor's 59.
I'd prefer someone considerably younger, who could be expected to sit on the Supreme Court at least 30 years. But, I don't think it's going too far into identity politics to observe that having just one female justice among nine is disgraceful, and it is likewise time for a person of Hispanic background to sit on the Court.

11. I think getting gender and
race in the same nominee may be asking for a little too much. I assume thats a fairly small pool of possible nominees. And her age may be one of the compromises Obama makes just to check two of the diversity boxes with one pick. That can be a problem with trying to be diverse instead of looking for longevity, philosophy, and potential to be a leader. I don't know yet though, I need to know more about her, I may end up being a enthusiastic supporter.

3. Mara just drives me crazy with her googly eyes. It's her tic.
Everytime she wants to make a point her eyes suddenly widen. It's offputting to me. Can't she just state what she wishes to state, without the shocked eye thing?

12. If she's 59 now, there would certainly be 20 good years for her on the SC, providing
she is in good health. Hell, look at Specter, he's 76 isn't he? And he still knows how to kick sand on the Democratic weaklings.

13. Anyone appointed by Bush
That's a deal-breaker. We don't need any more representatives of the Bush crime family on the SCOTUS, in case they decide to throw another election for the Republicans.
