2. Not an idiot in the least. He wants the PA Democratic machinery...
And he's trying to give as little as possible to get it.

Answer: PA Democratic party supported primary challenge.

3. I would agree. If your plan is to use the Democratic party

then explain it to Arlen that he'll be challenged by a real Dem for his seat.

4. And CHALLENGED he should be

If you not going to support some of the basic Democratic Party platform, then go elsewhere. This statement is a red flag to me. I think Joe Seastack is gearing up to challenge him. I will support Joe, if Specter doesn't fall in line.

11. Independents don't get elected to dick statewide in Pennsylvania,....
whereas Connecticut has some history of it -- notably Lowell Weicker getting elected governor on the ticket of "A Connecticut Party" (the actual name of his party) after being defeated for re-election to the US Senate in 1988.

6. his lack of sincerity is a detriment to this Democratic 'maneuver' - what gives?

Was this a 'oh boy, we got one' without some serious conversations about what they actually got? Or is this all fluff and chatter just to temper the Republican backlash and he will actually vote more Democratic over time? Very strange indeed

7. So is Obama still going to campaign for him?
I hope not.

Is Rendell going to continue to pressure REAL, loyal Democrats to drop out in favor of this Trojan Horse?

I hope not.

Am I going to vote for this self-important clown?

I really do not think so.

WTF is going on here anyway?

9. What do you expect
Specter didn't toe the party line as a Republican (part of why he left) so why would you expect him to do that as a Democrat?

10. Great! Just what we need!
Just a Democrat....not a LOYAL Democrat? You mean an DISLOYAL Democrat?

How about the "Penn. for Spector" party?

He should be stripped of all committee powers, if any. Treat him like a freshman.

12. Specter is a weaselly scruple-free SOB....
Perhaps Senate Democrats and the White House need to put him through the wringer as Republicans did when, after the 2004 general election, he declared that he wasn't going to dance to W's tune. Being threatened with the loss of his Judiciary Committee chairmanship brought him around, as I recall. He calls himself independent, but that's an absurdly generous gloss; he's a self-serving pusillanimous wretch. Let Rahmbo waterboard him, sez I.

Seriously: renegotiate with him ruthlessly and in short order. Play ball or no committee chairmanship, and we encourage Joe Sestak to primary your mangy ass.
