Rep. John Shimkus (R-IL), at a hearing on the Waxman-Markey Clean Energy and Security Act, which sets standards for renewable energy, energy efficiency, and global warming pollution, tells Obama administration officials that green economic reform is "the largest assault on democracy and freedom in this country that I've ever experienced." Shimkus then said that he feared this legislation more than the Clinton impeachment trials, the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, and the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

Transcript: Let me start out, for those of you who have been following this debate for many many years, there's, uh, no hiding where I'm at. I think this is the largest assault on democracy and freedom in this country that I've ever experienced. I've lived through some tough times in Congress -- impeachment, two wars, terrorist attacks. I fear this more than all of the above activities that have happened. And I'll tell you why as I go through, but I have some questions ...."

2. It's in the constitution: Thou shalt have a right to pollute.

Oh wait, that's in the ten commandments.....No, not there.

No way, no how do these rich corporations have a right to pollute. They should feel lucky that there isn't a total ban on all air pollution. In fact it SHOULD be illegal to pollute the air through smoke stacks or tail pipes. There should be a right to breathe pollution-free air.

5. they would not say this if a Republican President was doing it as McCain supported Caps

they are not genuine, but they continue to 'object' at the risk of their own survival as a party so I highly encourage them to grab every piece of furniture in the room as they are dragged kicking and screaming to the bath. they are going to get cleaned up whether they object or not. the parents and not 'crazy uncle george' are in charge now.

..or the massive neglect and trauma of Hurricane Katrina, or the latest exposure of torture by a once great nation, or the multitude of crimes committed by the last administration....I fear hearing that big flush sound when I am finished wiping my ass with my fingers.

What a total loon. Again....IL has some pretty f*cked up minds to put such a loon in Congress to represent them. Not saying much at all for the intelligence level of his constituents!
