Oh Texas! - amongst the repeating of Palin's 'Thanks but no thanks' line and a story of boiling a frog slowly in a pot, Governor Perry basically comes clean that he wants to spend federal tax stimulus money without any oversight or federal involvement whatsoever. He wants the ability to throw money to his Republican buddies' projects and leave the lesser of Texans to their own devices. 'Let em eat cake.'

excerpt....RESOLVED, That the 81st Legislature of the State of Texas hereby claim sovereignty under the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States over all powers not otherwise enumerated and granted to the federal government by the Constitution of the United States; and, be it further... that this serve as notice and demand to the federal government, as our agent, to cease and desist, effective immediately, mandates that are beyond the scope of these constitutionally delegated powers; and, be it further... that all compulsory federal legislation that directs states to comply under threat of civil or criminal penalties or sanctions or that requires states to pass legislation or lose federal funding be prohibited or repealed...

16. Exactly. Immediately pull every dollar of federal money and services.
Pull every military base. They can figure out how to maintain their own highways, build their own military, fund all their own programs.

"sovereign" my ass.

3. Republicans in charge of lots of money - yeah, that worked out the last 8 years

These folks are panicking less than 100 days into the first year - what are they going to be doing in 3 years !? They need a hobby.

17. Not all of us want to be here.
So I'd say yes.

And before you say it, believe me...if I had someplace else to go, I'd be there.

6. The last time Texans were dissatisfied with the Federal Government...
was February 1861. Bring it on!

I must say Perry is a poor speaker. He reminds me of Bush the younger with his speaking ability.

7. Strings come attached to money, idiot Fair Hair!
Many higher levels of government that don't have direct authority over lower levels nevertheless strongly influence them by giving them money.

8. I live in Texas and I rarely ever hear this man speak.
But now that I've heard this, all I can say is, I hate that accent. Inter-duce, "going to" reduced to "goan". I was born and raised in rural Texas and I have slips from time to time, but I don't talk anything like Rick Perry.

12. I'm sure that not only is your dialect far better than Mr. Perry's....
But the content of your speech is as well.

20. OK DUL and other fellow Texans - do we think it's time to revive the Rick Perry
rumors and encourage someone to really dig down deep. I for one, believe them to be true or a part truth anyway. I've heard this from people that are not normally gossip mongers and it seems too odd of an accusation to be totally groundless.

13. Texas doesn't control the federal militia.
I see it this way:

Texas 0
federal government 310,000,000 strong.

Surrender now and you will get to plea insanity.

15.  Bye-Bye-Ha-Ha
If these were the same type of men who stole Texas from Mexico or seceded from the Union, I'd be alarmed. But these guys are just a bunch of pampered, blow dried pussies trying to steal even more public money.
