This is going to be shown in Movie theaters April 6, according to the blog this was posted on, though I am not sure if it will be just in the UK or other Countries as well.

At the end it mentions that 2 women die from domestic violence every week in the UK. It does not mention the countless others that live in fear daily under the threat of violence, a kind of silent majority if you will. What little this might accomplish in the scope of things, hopefully it will shed more light into this dark side of the room where the monsters dwell.

3. Anybody who has seen "Domino" would have a hard time believing she didn't kick his ass.
Good PSA...but I kept expecting Keira to take him down.

4. ABC did a story on the PSA this morning.
The domestic abuse survivor and the counselor both remarked on how real this is, and how these PSAs do reach people in domestic abuse situations, or those who witness such situations. The guy representing advertising said that this was too harsh and upsetting.

Gee... domestic abuse harsh and upsetting. You think?

I think such PSAs are needed. Mr. kt and I watched it this morning and we both said, good for you, Kiera. She did the right thing by participating in such a meaningful PSA.

7. PSAs are great.....
but the UK and to a greater extent the US have jungle capitalist economies and lack of social protection / assistance that make it harder for many abused women to strike off on their own.

9. I'm 100% against....
the video. One doesn't need to see the violence to know that it's wrong, and it was an especially bad decision to show a guy kicking a woman in the area of her "womb". Close to 20% of pregnant woman in the U.S. are battered, causing miscarriages, low birth weight and stillbirths.
We all see more than enough violence on TV and in the movies, which may be a factor in the high rate of DV.
It would be much more productive to do a video of her coming home, seeing the shattered mirror and blood, and immediately following her safety plan...
I could say a lot more about what the video SHOULD have said, but you get the idea. It could have been much more productive.
The way it stands now it like a trailer from some new thriller and the violent guys are just gonna get "heated" up- a very negative result.

12. UK PSAs are brutal
This one is tame compared to the 'watch out for motorcycles' one where you see a rider slam into a car. Anyway, as a victim of domestic violence, I applaud this one. I just wish it was shown in the states too.

13. Good thing they didn't use Madonna or Britney Spears.
It might have resulted in guys rushing up to the screen and encouraging the abuser. Or trying to jump into the screen and helping out.

Before anyone criticizes...my point is, would anyone care if it were an anonymous actress getting that abuse? Is it the discussion of abuse that's getting the attention, or Ms. Knightley?

I can tell you this: since TV stations no longer have to be responsible to serve their local communities, if this were a PSA for broadcast, you the public would never see it on the air. Even if the Virgin Mary was the one getting the crap kicked out of her.

14. It's too bad that this thread hasn't
garnered more attention. Wasn't that the point of the video?

I would also like to add that if this video is meant to affect victims of DV, they already know what abuse looks and feels like.

They need to know what kind of help is out there for them, and the public should be looking for ways to enable these women to safely leave these abusive partners.

In the United States, a women's first line of defense is the police, who need specialized training in DV. They need to be more aware of the situation they may be dealing with and what kind of danger a woman might be under if she speaks. Or there may be other various scenarios which could be going on for which a trained domestic violence victim's advocate is needed. Safety plans, shelters to go to, dealing with children, belongings and automobiles are all things things that need to be discussed. It is not that cut and dried when it comes to leaving a partner.

In any case, there have been movies, such as Enough, Sleeping with the Enemy, and Black and Blue...we don't need any more violent visuals.

15. Out of sight, out of mind
People didn't want to hear my pleas for help back in the '70s when I was trapped in a horrid relationship with a violent abuser. You were supposed to just hush up. That way, nothing changes but other people can sweep it under the rug and ignore it. Sorry it offends. It offends the victims the most.

17. I have been running this around about this in My mind for..
quite some time.

Is it so ingrained in us that Women are considered the "weaker sex" that no matter what the cause or circumstance cynicism compels Us to think or say aloud "She brought it upon Herself." Also the only reason that the view count is so high(I watched it skyrocket right after I posted it) is her "celebrity" status and most viewers where only looking for some sensationalism, with no real profound thought of as to why She did this.

Is it a sense of deep guilt and dealing with it in any direct way, We fear that We will have to take a long and serious look at Ourselves?

Is it, as I told a friend of Mine a time ago.
"People are afraid of change and/or confrontation for three reasons;
It will get worse
It will probably stay the same
It might get better."

Maybe it is a combination of the above or none at all.
Or I am way off the mark.
