From Politicstv

As the US Attorney scandal rages, another Alberto Gonzales scandal has flared up - this time
concerning his pressuring then A.G. John Ashcroft to sign domestic spying orders when Ashcroft

James B. Comey, former Deputy Attorney General of the United States, testifies on May 15th about
an incident on the evening of March 10, 2004 (from Wikipedia):

Comey, who was Acting Attorney General during the March 2004 surgical hospitalization of John Ashcroft,
refused to "certify" central aspects of the NSA program at that time. The certification was required
under existing White House procedures to continue the program. After Comey's refusal, the newspaper
reported, Andrew H. Card Jr., White House Chief of Staff, and Alberto R. Gonzales, then White House
counsel and now Attorney General, made an emergency visit to the George Washington University Hospital,
to attempt to win approval directly from Ashcroft for the program.

2. I was hoping Comey would drop a bigger bomb.
I think it is certain Rove has illegally spied on every single political enemy.

3. It's refreshing to hear from a DoJ'er who has an intact memory.
This was powerful testimony to view. I was surprised to hear Bush in the end told Comey to go forward to "do the right thing." If this was the case, why did Bush then brazenly break the law and brag about it. I know -- Bush does nothing decent or sane.

I hate to say it, but now I have to give Ashcroft more credit than I ever thought he was worth. At least there was a line he was not willing to cross, unlike the his successor.

6. Un-FUCKING-believable.
Un-Fucking-believable. These are the loathesome, blood-sucking leaches that are granted the responsibility of running our country?!?! What can you possibly say? These turdblossoms make Hollywood villians look moderate!!!!! Un-fucking-believable. That's all I can say because I am left so jaw-droppingly speechless. Rank whores.

8. Seems straightforward and idealistic.
Mr. Comey seems to be straightforward and tormented, but his testimony is SO important in revealing the slimy attitude toward the rule of LAW that Mr. Gonzales and Card (and their masters, Rove and Bush) have.

Thank God for heroes who speak out about the horrible behavior and attitudes they witness. Mr. Comey will be well regarded by future historians for his courage and devotion to ideals in the face of huge pressures to cave and "sign on."

It appears we owe him a huge debt for his courage to speak truth to power. Thank you, Mr. Comey.

it's to bad he didn't speak out sooner, although I think
I can understand his reluctance to do so...now. gheesh!
He did seem to come across as genuine and tormented.

9. Wow. Incredible.
He had to summon the FBI head and it turns out Ashcroft had a bigger sense of principles than we ever imagined. What a strange and bizarre group. The Bush administration needs to have an HBO drama series with all the backstabbing and betrayal and intrigue at work in there.

10. That is what surprised me! Ashcroft was not as reprehensible as we thought.
Amazing stuff.

12. Not bizarre, just criminal!!
They are criminals! I don't give Ashcroft that many kudo's though.
He was just stating the facts, as they were, at that time.
He was not the AG and did not have the powers of the AG, at that time.
