7. It is bizarre how he flogs the earmarks issue.

Sure they're objectionable, but they comprise such a miniscule part of the budget each year that eliminating them in toto would accomplish next to nothing fiscally. Is that the plan, to appear as a hero for accomplishing diddly-squat? A bait-and-switch to distract us from his support of horrendous military spending, etc.? Or is he sincerely deranged? Does he have a complex from his Keating 5 days that impels him to cultivate a holier-than-the-Pope image? Gah, this little man is absurd! He's like Captain Ahab, only not obsessed with chasing some great fearsome whale, but a dorky little flounder!

Truth on Earmarks

1. Bill was negotiated by Republicans and Democrats in December.

2. Earmarks are down 1 billion from last year.

3rd. The 7.7 billion in earmarks; Obama campaign promise was he would limit earmarks to the level of earmarks in 1994. Which was 7.8 billion. The 7.7 billion in earmarks is less then 2 % in total spending.

4. In 2006 the last of Republican earmark orgies those earmarks were 29 billion

5. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell name is on more the 75 million in earmarks. With 50 million of those earmarks only in the bill because he and he alone put it in there.

6. The number 1 earmarker in the country in Republican Thad Cochran 76 million all by himself and 471 million also requested by other Republicans with his name attached.

7. Republicans make up 3 of the top 5 earmarkers and 6 of the top 10.

8. When looking at earmarks that individual Senators get, the Republicans get 669 million and Democrats get 677 million. Problem is that it takes 57 Democrats to spend that much and only 40 Republicans.
