1. We love people.
And of course people are white, christian, homophobic, greedy, selfish republicans. If you are other than this you are not a person.

9. Conservatives need to make these bullshit claims of loving people.
They need something to whitewash their uprofoundly ugly, cruel greed. No matter how much conservatives go on about lofty principles, the number one motivation for conservatives is simply foul, unenlightened greed. Hell, that fraud Newt Gingrich also loved going on about how liberals supposedly oppressed the poor. Most conservatives have no soul at all, but some of the more clever ones realize that it better serves their cause to pretend to have one.

13. They DO love people... who are in the upper percentile...
...everyone else is fucked. Yes, Conservatives love people; that's why Liberals have always lead the fight for Civil Rights and Conservatives were the ones for segregation and other legislation that oppressed african americans. Yes, Conservatives care about the constitution, that's why they hate a president now that spent 12 years of his life as a CONSTITUTIONAL Professor but they loved a president before him that spent 8 years of his life using it as toilet paper. Yes, Conservatives believe in tax-cuts for people; which is why they'll give tax-cuts to those making hundreds of thousands, if not, millions to billions of dollars a year while deny tax-cuts to those who, Gee I don't know, actually STIMULATE the economy. Yes, Conservatives care about the working class/labor in America; that's why more Right Wing politicians have signed bills that prevent "collective bargaining" and Union establishment. Ahhhh Yeeeeesssssssss! I can feeeeeeeel the love RUSH! Thank You! Oh wait, that's not love, that's complete spin and right-wing cool-aide. The bible teaches us that "a tree is known by its fruit"; Rush Limbaugh is obviously a gluttonous, self-indulged, hateful, angry man. We all suffer from character defects like this and shouldn't be judged for it but do you really think someone like that has any kind of good message in his heart?

34. Wow. I'd be flattered. Christian???? I don't think so.
A REAL CHRISTIAN DOESN'T BELIEVE IN TAX-CUTS FOR THE RICH.

Why?

Jesus Christ said things like "A rich man will hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven", "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth", "You cannot serve both God and wealth", "it is easier to pass a camel through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of heaven", "Woe unto you who are rich for ye hath received your conciliation"

A REAL CHRISTIAN ACTUALLY BELIEVES IN "HAND-OUTS".

Why?

Amidst Christ's constant reminder to put the poor above anyone else Jesus Christ once said, "Go, sell all that you have, give to the poor and you will have treasure in Heaven, come, follow Me" (I don't know about you but that sounds like welfare and foreign-aid to me).

A REAL CHRISTIAN DOES NOT GLORIFY WAR OR JUSTIFY KILLING.

Why?

Jesus Christ said, "Love your enemies, DO GOOD TO THEM THAT HATE YOU, bless them that curse you", "If someone strikes you on your right cheek turn to him the other also, if someone sues the at the law and takes away thy cloak, give him thy coat as well, and if someone takes thee on a mile, you shall go with him twain.", "Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God"

A REAL CHRISTIAN LOVES EVERYONE THE SAME; EVEN NON-CHRISTIANS.

Why?

Jesus Christ hung out with everyone; thieves, murderers, prostitutes, pagans, and others considered unGodly. When a magistrate asked Jesus why he hung out with people like that, Christ replied, "It is the sick who need Doctors, not the healthy." And all Christ did was talk to them and bless them, He didn't shun them or cast them out but he showed them Love.
I can keep going but you get the idea; I LOVE BEING A CHRISTIAN BUT DESPITE YOUR RELIGIOUS IDEOLOGY CHRIST WAS UNQUESTIONABLY MORE SIMILAR TO WHAT A LIBERAL BELIEVES IN TODAY THAN WHAT A CONSERVATIVE DOES. It is perhaps the saddest and most unfortunate irony in existence.

36. very true...
I think maybe there's so much contradictory writing in the bible, and so much fire, brimstone, anger and punishment that the real message gets blotted out. And sick power hogs use that to easily twist attention away from the message of love and power within us all, to punishment and authority from without. The idea of trusting one's own wisdom WITHIN is threatening to authoritarians, because believing in one's own inner compass makes people poor vassals.

(I'm an eclecticly spiritual person myself, and don't believe in One Right Way to get on the path. As a moral compass, I like the Buddhist idea of reducing suffering. Useful when thinking about complex, gray situations, where there is suffering going on on many levels.)

The people in my dept are by no means upper percentile: we provide support services to a University. We're an interesting mix--the conformist church people and the creative liberals, including a pretty good number of GBLT folks. Alot of people get into this line of work at first through church.

The conservative ones are more the type used to advantage by the reich wing--needing to conform and believe in authority, believing in the Iraq war, in Free Market orthodoxy, and thinking that reproductive rights are a black and white issue, that the liberal stance is wholly evil, taking their pastor's word as law, and afraid to speak up to authority when they're being mistreated (of course, that is a very generalized picture of them, and it's through my filters).

I do have a friend there who is a very active Liberal Christian! She is perplexed by gayness, though. I have another friend there who is also Christian (had an intense conversion experience, I think), and was very torn but ended up voting mccain/palin on the basis of her free market orthodoxy. I guess Reaganomics got to her, so she's anti-regulations? I don't know, but she has a Don't Blame Me, I voted For Sarah bumpersticker on her wall. She is a smart woman; I don't get it....

37. Nice. You have an awesome dynamic.
I used to be an atheist then I was an agnostic. One of the biggest reasons I hated Christianity was because I was using the wrong examples of what I thought was Christianity. It wasn't until I actually read the New Testament when I really found out how completely and utterly wrong I was wrong about Christianity. How many people out there are the same? How many people out there recoil from Christianity because of this right wing perversion of it. It infuriates me. There are plenty of reasons why a liberal might be angry toward the right wing but their biggest offense is what THEY'VE done to Christianity; no one else. You can't blame the liberals, gays, jews, secularists, democrats, the ACLU... the only people who are to blame are the Pseudo-Christian right wing because they've grossly misrepresented what is Christianity. My guess is you and/or someone you know judges what Christianity is without even reading the words of Christ (I know I use to). I never try shoving it down people's throats, all I'm saying is that people (liberals especially) need to start approaching Christianity as objectively as they do every other subject they're passionate about. That means realizing what Christianity is by it's source (the words of Christ) and not some asshole on TV, or an asshole at a church, or an asshole on a blog (like me). If someone asked you what a liberal was, would you direct them to one of Rupert Murdoch's fine media outlets or would you give them literature by Noam Chomsky or Howard Zinn?

Take your friend for example; maybe she should check her history; The United States economy always does better under a democratic president(look it up)-NUMBERS DON'T LIE (unless Diebold crunches them) Even since the Dow Jones was established in 1901, the stock market has always done better as well. As far as "Reaganomics" or "Trickle-down" or "Supply-side" or "Horse and Sparrow" or "Voodoo"; How about we take the rest of the industrialized world as an example and realize the lower and middle classes stimulate the economy. The gay issue? Christ spoke out against two things in reference to sanctity of marriage -homosexuality IS NOT one of them- they are adultery and divorce, but I'm assuming your friend isn't perplexed by adultery or divorce because that's something the right wing have in common with us Liberal "heathens".

20. Rush Limbaugh IS Archie Bunker without the charm.Conservatives feed his ego.
We love people????...what a joke. We see individuals as potential...not groups we can manipulate...My god, who different from them do they not hate?

If you don't agree with Rush he wants you to fail...that's love alright.
What a goober imbecile whose ego of self importance convinces him he's important. He's paid millions to cultivate ignorance and hatred.

They couldn't find a Col. Smedley Butler (who they tried to hire to assasinate FDR and lead a coup to take over America only he ratted them out to FDR and this included the richest people and Walker Bush) so they got a Rush and are trying to destroy America once again.

Ever notice how the most fucked up people you know...the real assholes all love Rush and conservatives. Thank God they are a minority...but with a majority of radio shows. They have produced nothing but failure and disaster.

33. Don't Worry
I know what you mean, but the amount of people following him
is dwindling. I know that the ratings are huge, but the
bottom line is that 80% of the US makes less than $100,000 a
year. The numbers are overwhelmingly in the Democrats favor
if they continue to grow the coalition and stay on message.
Obama, Bill and Hill are the only Dems who play politics as
good as the Reps. We need to scour the country for O's
successor right now. Limbaugh will support Romney or Palin.
Ironically their best candidate is Crist and they are
ostracizing him for doing what is in the best interest of his
constituents. Limbaugh, Glen Beck, and Sean Hannity will be
the end of the conservative movement as long as we continue to
expose them as ignorant bigots.
