It's a very tough job but I guess somebody (finally) had to do it...

Btw, it is good to see that Chuck D is still so deserving of the MASSIVE crush I had on him from 1986 until, well... now...

1. I find it hilarious when confronted with two black men who are from and have a
thorough appreciation of black and hip hop culture, Steele abandons his corny, over the top, and stupid as all hell "ghetto speak" and talks like a decent human being.

This is the least annoying I think he's ever been.

3. In 1988
It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back came out. It exposed a white punk rocker from the suburbs (me) to a whole other world that I didn't know existed. Chuck D. and Public Enemy helped to shape my social awareness and made me a better person as a result. How many records can you say do that?

18. "Nation of Millions" is a classic.
I could not agree more.

Chuck D. and Public Enemy helped to shape my social awareness and made me a better person as a result.

How many PEOPLE can you say that about?? :fistbump:

24. I am with you Number 23
There are certain books and albums I absorbed at the exact right time in my life. "Nations Of Millions" was one of those I was 16 at the time and just learning there was a whole world outside of my suburban existance. I have Chuck D. and the Bomb Squad to thank for that.

4. "I've been a republican since I was 17" says Michael Steele.
So I have to ask, "You are the same dumbfuck you were when you were 17?"

I've changed a whole hell of alot since I was 17. I grew up and realized what's up. I thought I was pretty smart when I was 17 because I finished my tests before everyone else and scored higher even so. That doesn't mean shit. It means I was a big fish in a little pond. I encountered much more intelligent people than I when I went to college. I came to realize that even though I might have been pretty smart, I wasn't a genius. I accepted it. Obama is a genius and Limbaugh is a sad sack of shit. Otherwise, we'd have President Limbaugh today. You think Rush wouldn't like to be President? You bet your dick he would! I would too! But I'm not man enough to handle the campaign, the scrutiny, or the scope of the task. I am man enough to admit it. Is Limbaugh?

6. Hughley kissed Steele's butt a little too much for my taste.
How many times did Hughley tell Steele he was smart and deserved respect? I counted at least three.

And no one wanted Bush to fail from the outset, so there is no equivalent to Rush's treatment of Obama IMO. In fact, plenty of Democrats gave Bush the benefit of doubt until he led us into Iraq. It wasn't until well after the fact that people concluded Bush was a lying sack of shit based on his policies and actions. Obama has only been in office a little over a month. Steele and other Republicans need to STFU.

19. I agree. But I think Hughley was just trying to be a good host
Didn't want Steele running off in the first five minutes crying to his Repub brethren about how the "big black guy was sooooo mean to me!"

He said Rush was ugly. He said wayyy to many things friendly "to his own people". He is not going to last long. The repuglicans won't stand for that.

26. A whole year before Obama. I was impressed.
Not.

Not sure what his biography looked like prior to 2003 but PLEASE! To go from a Lt. Governor to RNC Chair is somehow more impressive than being a senator from one of the largest states in the country and then PRESIDENT??? Oh, yeah. Toot your horn buddy. No one else will do that for you.

10. We didn't want Bush to fail. There was nothing we could do to prevent Bush from failing.
We really tried to keep Bush from failing. We took to the freezing cold streets by the millions trying to keep him from failing. But Bush just arrogantly disagreed with us and ran straight into the arms of failure. We tried to get him away from failure. But he wanted to stay the course. He was like the Captain of ship headed for a waterfall screaming, damn the torpedoes! Full speed ahead! He obviously didn't understand the hazards ahead. He wouldn't let anyone try to explain it to him either.

If the Republicans try at least half as hard to keep Obama from failing and we Democrat tried to keep Bush from failing. We all should have the country back on it's feet in no time. This really isn't the time to be trying to slow any body's roll.

11. About Baltimore schools. Now that American money will go to build American schools instead of Iraq's...
Edited on Sun Mar-01-09 09:46 AM by Wizard777
Once that money has had some time to do some good. You come back later and talk to us. Bush shot us in the foot and now you're gonna say, look a them limp and stumble. What else would you expect? The republicans don't care about Baltimore. They barely participate in Baltimore politics. They complain to the High Heavens about our States Attorney Patricia Jessamy. Yet she continuously runs unopposed. So until Republicans begin to participate in bettering Baltimore instead of trashing everyone else's effort to make Baltimore a better place. You don't have a right to bitch about anything!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQDVv48zSrE"> Hip Hop and the republicans are dealing with some of the same issues. But unlike the Republicans. Hip Hop has a clue on which way to go. Change your ways or end your days. The Republicans need to feel this.

25. You must have been pissed that Steele made an example of Baltimore in his little speech.
Baltimore does have its issues (I lived in the DC metro area for almost 5 years) but you're right. The Repubs don't care anything about Baltimore. Too urban and MUCH too black.

So I'm really starting to lose what little respect I had for Steele as a person.

12. I don't get the GOP strategy at all
Even if the GOP wasn't the party of Wall Street bankers and Southern white fundamentalists, they have zero chances of peeling off black votes while Obama is President.

If they would have selected a chairman, black or white, with a mission of transforming the GOP into representing something other than the Moneyed Elite and white trash, I wold get that. But Steele isn't talking about changing ANYTHING about the bedrock values of the party.

16. Black folks know better
I worry about a lot of my white brothers, but there are not so many fools in the black community. I just don't see any of them being taken in by the GOP because the GOP can put together some hiphop tunes.

GOP + hiphop = this

22. it still makes no sense, a white guy like Charlie Crist could do more to appeal
to a wider audience including minorities . but the Republicans can't see past the race part. Obama is black so if they run Keyes against him they might have a chance. Obama is black so lets put out Steele and Jindal.

they can't see that people vote on issues and character more than race. this is why most people including african americans did not support Sharpton and other black Dems in the way they have Obama.

23. Hughley's point about the "plasticness" of the Repub party is exactly in line with what you're sayin
They are so shallow, so superficial and meaningless in their ideas and in their analysis of how to appeal to voters that they equate all minorities to be the same, all women to be the same. Palin is greater than or equal to Hillary in their minds. Steele is greater than or equal to Obama. Never mind the backwards policies or personal beliefs of these individuals; what's on the outside is the only thing that matters in their heads, and they still manage to be shocked and baffled every time they get it wrong.

They've spent so much of the last 50 years ignoring everyone who wasn't a white, heterosexual, middle-to upper class Christian that they literally have no idea how to speak to anyone outside of this group, how to address their issues or what the hell their issues even are.
