4. "Brave and skilled warriors, commanded by Achilles . . ."
Not an especially apt headline.

"Minions," perhaps. Trogs, toads, pigdogs, jerkfaces, etc., etc.

That's what I would have said.

41. Try standing....
between this and Joe Scarborough on "Meet The Press". What a sad bunch of post-Robber Barons! I too could puke and this week it is easier.
By the way another Republican has died - my Dad, a WWII vet passed away on Tuesday. I put the question mark because he was one of those people who never voted but thought he was in that group of small businessment because he was a traveling salesman living strictly on commissions. That means we never had any money for bills but always for his car.
He listened to Rush because he thought the idiot was actually intelligent enough to form opinions on anything other then what gets ratings.

44. Jesus. I missed MTP, planned on watching it later...
It's not the same without Russert. For all his shortcomings, he did ask the tough questions most of the time... :-(

I still can't understand why Scarborough has a national forum. He left Congress under a cloud and now there's this business with Mika. He was almost watchable when his show followed KO, or when he appeared with Ron Reagan, but I now find him unwatchable. My friend does his "workout" during Scarborough, says the angry adrenalin rush makes him do better... x(

My mother listens to Rush. Even before I knew anything about politics, I knew he was evil and felt like jumping out of her car when she had him on. She also watches O'Reilly and Hannity, gives me crap because I don't watch "the news..." :eyes:

And I am so sorry to hear about your Dad. I lost mine, too, and it's still hard for me. I know that we are losing out WWII vets and it's a shame. My Dad wasn't old enough for the war, but did serve in the '50s, was drafted. You must be proud of your Dad's service, hope that you know more than I do. I'm into genealogy too and missed asking too many questions. :-(

My Dad was a Republican, too, very active in local politics. But he was friendly with folks of both parties, our Democratic mayor, Nelson Rockefeller and he once spent the day with Shirley Chisholm and became a huge admirer. My mother keeps telling me that my Dad would be "ashamed" of me and my beliefs, but my Dad was not stupid and I can't imagine that he could possibly have supported Bush*... Wish I could talk to him. ;(

My condolences to you and your family. I know how hard it is. I logged in just now to watch this clip from "This Week..." My friend said it's a "must see," Katrina Vanden Heuvel eviscerating Karl Rove. Hope it makes you feel better... :-)

45. I got that too.
My mother told me I was not a real American because I refused to vote for Reagan in 1984. Of course I did not vote for him in 1980 either. The Repubs have screwed my family in so many ways that I have a real difficulty believing that there are any worth a prostitutes purse.
That thing with Rove was sweet wasn't it? Did you notice the panic in his eyes when he realized that he was being challenged - BEAUTIFUL.

Your attempts to marginalize them by calling them insane and mad is akin to the destruction of political opposition and free speech in America....

I would say hey guys look we tried it your way since Raygun. How about letting us try a different approach now and lets just see if its all that terrible. Which is exactly what Obama is doing.

broadcasting you make an order and when it's brought out to you explain that you've changed your mind as their TV or radio is making you sick. In a food establishment you take a bite or a sip and spit it out, loudly asking, "you call this stuff food." and demand a refund. If the place is crowded start retching and holding your stomach.

11. The argument that they would use...
is that McCain was not a Conservative in fact to them McCain was a moderate liberal.

The Scandalous Republicans that lost the 2006 elections in Congress were not Conservatives either and that the only true Conservative was Raygun.

Their position is that 70 percent of America is truly Conservative when you talk about specific Conservative principles and the family.

Just so everyone would see what a disaster Bush and the Republicans would be. Looking back, I got my wish, but it wasn't worth it. I didn't really think it would get as bad as it did. I had no idea what the country was really in for.

17. I have a little sympathy for Rush here
That doesn't mean I don't think his way of looking at things is warped. It most certainly is.

However, I, too, have been hoping for eight years for the president -- or, more correctly, the usurper who had been posing as president -- to fail. His plan was to destroy the constitutional system of checks and balances and separation of powers, to gut constitutionally guaranteed civil liberties and legal due process and to establish a dictatorial presidency, all the better to manage an American corporate/political empire stretching over North America, most of Latin America and the Middle East (most importantly the Middle Eastern oil producing states).

And Mr. Bush failed big. He failed to turn Iraq into an American colony. He failed stop people from rising up against his legacy. He failed, after some initial success, to get the American people to believe the lies he told about Iraq. He failed to allow Wall Street bankers to get their thieving hands on social security. Even where we hoped he would succeed, he failed; he failed to catch Osama bin Laden.

He did have some successes. He succeed at making sure that few of those aforementioned thieves on Wall Street would never suffer for their crimes, because he succeeded in repealing most laws against theft that applied to them. He succeeded in turning America into a torture state. He succeeded at silencing government scientists who would have sounded the alarm about climate change. Worst of all, he succeeded at making middle class money upwardly mobile, while leaving the middle class behind.

We could have done without those successes, but we should be thankful he failed to the extent that he did. Of course, my hoping he would fail had nothing to do with it; the fact is that Mr. Bush is a born failure.

I hope that President Obama succeeds. President Obama was elected to clean up the mess Mr. Bush left us, and a big, stinking mess it is. And Rush Limbaugh wants President Obama to fail in this noble task we voters have given him. What is it that Rush finds so enlightening about the dark night of the Bush Regime?

And Rush Limbaugh has the unmitigated gall to say that President Obama opposes freedom as a foundation of American government. Does he mean freedom like NSA spying or the declaration that any American citizen may be locked up with the key thrown away on the word of the president (or a usurper posing as president) alone? Or does he mean the right of a president to discard laws and issue signing statements and make treaties without the advice and consent of the Senate, as with the SOFA with Iraq?

Yes, I am glad Bush failed. I'm not sorry that I hoped for it.

Stealing two elections.

I hate saying it only because Ken Blackwell made such an unholy mess of Ohio in 2004 that we can't really say with any certainty who carried the state. At least Katherine Harris left no doubt in the end that Gore carried Florida in 2000.

36. Bush succeeded in
Treasury looting, bankrupting the economy, compromising the military and our national security, wrecking relations with traditional allies, and leaving a legacy that would make Caligula blush.
As to Limbaugh's assertion that our president opposes freedom: That's one of the right wing's standard ploys. There are two essential freedoms, freedom from and freedom to. One is not gotten without giving up some of the other. The right wing never differentiates between the two, and no one ever calls them on it. The question to them is simple: To which freedom do you refer, to or from?

25. The myth that social programs are meant to control people
Edited on Sun Mar-01-09 01:14 AM by windoe
is an interesting twist of reality meant to induce fear. Fear that government support for health, education and housing is actually in disguise a method of control meant to take away liberties and private money. I had to get this line of logic straight in my head so I can understand how to dismantle it.

The only people going to pay more taxes now are above $200,000 so these people are being fed this myth that this money is rightly theirs, that to redistribute it to the disadvantaged is unfair, thus a loss in liberty. Maybe I am missing another point in logic but this is all I can glean.

Basically I do not sense that these people have any empathy whatsoever, and I hope their control of the GOP ends and more stable people take over.

Bush's agenda was to start illegal wars, loot the treasury, redistribute the wealth to benefit the rich and sell off our national resources, and he was successful in doing these things, despite (informed) public opinion. Being against illegal criminal activities is not akin to wishing someone would fail. This guy is one f*cked up individual and listening to him is making me crazy, I really cannot listen to him.
