In the US, the growing number of new homeless people falling through the cracks because of the struggling US economy is becoming so evident even long-term homeless people are taking note.

The growing population is causing problems for shelters that are often forced to close their doors...and turn away the needy, as Al Jazeera's Mike Kirsch discovers at Skid Row in Los Angeles, California.

and sadly, there are people who I've read say they have MORE (not equal, but more) compassion for animals being homeless than for little babies and their families being homeless.


The proof is also in the thread - if this thread was titled - LA throws out (name the animal) onto the streets there would be 50 posts by now and several dozen recs, and I'm the first comment.


John Edwards was doing a good job with bringing the homeless plight to the forefront - I hope we all will write our Senators, Congresspersons and the president www.whitehouse.gov/contact and let them know that we don't want to end up like these poor people either, and we hope there will be a concerted effort to assist them.

2. basic human behavior - most people are afraid to even watch this damn report - out of sight and out

of mind, and, people don't want to see others suffer b/c they're afraid it will happen to them, and, they feel helpless in solving it - it's not hard - pull over like I've done and ask a few what they need, and write your elected officials if that's not an option.

Two different times, my wife and i became homeless, and it was only through the kindness of friends that we were able to get back on our feet. We still are only barely able to keep from it happening again. If it does,what then??

major story about mass homelessness spreading - proves my point immensely - people are warped. I'm not too concerned about a roofer going back in the woods with an adult - this story, however, is troubling.

my sibling told me people do not want to face reality and would rather talk about silliness - and you say just that! Yes, it's a whole new world for our country and it's getting worse, DAILY. Another sibling of mine just lost their good paying job. Hoping for a turnaround soon or many of us will be begging for a roof to sit under to keep out of the rain.
