1. They have finally done it. They have gone right over the edge.

If this gains any momentum in their party, they can kiss their asses goodbye. They most likely already can kiss their asses goodbye. Maybe they feel they have nothing to lose? At least they're right on one thing.

If profits aren't being made what's the point of eliminating the tax? Not that it makes sense even when profits ARE being made, but still.

3. Of course the Republican wants the capital gains tax...

to be cut to zero, that's what he collected campaign contributions for from his corporate donors. No surprises there

4. I'll tell you what - for marketable securities (stocks, options, etc. ) I'd grant his wish IF

....at the time of the purchase of the instrument, they paid 15% up front, and they gave up the write off for the losses.

Pay to play. The government gets their cut up front. If you make money - great. If you lose money, too bad, so sad.

I'm trying to remember the last time the average taxpayer had any capital gains and I think it has been quite a while.

6. This is what my crazy Republican mother wants as well.

It so she can safely take out her money from all of her stocks and pay no penalties. Republicans don't care about the 'greater good' (including dear old mom) they just want to get what they consider to be theirs. Bootstraps indeed.
