5. BCCI matters just went further underground in the 90s while GHWBush and cronies enjoyed protection
for themselves and their global fascist agenda, coming back stronger and with a more aggressive team of fascists willing to commit any crime they saw necessary to control the world and its economy.

I'm happy that people in the new Congress and administration has experience in dealing with the BCCI ;-)
Looking forward to see the new team get down to solving problems like this. Oh, it's gonna be so good to have people n charge that isn't bound to screw up all they touch!

7. money made in illicit drug trade has been used to keep banks afloat
U.N. crime chief says drug money flowed into banks

Reuters

Sunday, January 25, 2009

VIENNA: The United Nations' crime and drug watchdog has indications that money made in illicit drug trade has been used to keep banks afloat in the global financial crisis, its head was quoted as saying on Sunday.

Vienna-based UNODC Executive Director Antonio Maria Costa said in an interview released by Austrian weekly Profil that drug money often became the only available capital when the crisis spiralled out of control last year.

"In many instances, drug money is currently the only liquid investment capital," Costa was quoted as saying by Profil.

"In the second half of 2008, liquidity was the banking system's main problem and hence liquid capital became an important factor." ...

8. Blech!
Another movie about a pair of heroes taking on the world's largest evil corporation and (one can safely assume) winning? They're a dime a dozen.

I hate such movies with passion. They may be good entertainment, but they are not vehicles for information or education. First, tney instill the idea that this is all fiction. No-one who doesn't know about BCCI already will be any wiser. Second, they instill the idea that *if* there was any truth to this, you need a Rambo-type person to take them on and an endless supply of bullets. Bullshit. Taking down BCCI (or rather, taking down the above-water part of BCCI) happened without a single gunshot, but through years of work by persistent journalists and a few honest lawyers.

Read "The Outlaw Bank" instead, by the two TIME reporters who broke the original story. The backstory part in the middle is somewhat slow going, but most of the book reads like a thriller. And even the slow-going part will have your blood boil, seeing the corruption.

What's ironic is that it is entirely possible to make a gripping action movie that closely follows reality. Syriana is one. The problem is that people who don't know the stuff already come out of the theater much confused, and they still believe that whatever they'd just seen was all fiction anyway (and that George Clooney hates America).

(I'll eat my words if the "IBBC" movie turns out not like Ithink it will, but... the trailer suggests it's unlikely.)
