It's interesting that the judge that's complaining is a conservative. I guess the liberal judges in this country are so cowed down by the conservative base and assholes like Bill O'Reilly they are too afraid to stand up anymore.

We can not allow the conservative base to push around judges anymore. We can stop them by KICKING THEIR ASSES 24/7!

1. The truth is that this method of sentencing is at fault.

And that is due to the political system. Jails are often privately run. The more prisoneers that are incarcerated, the more money they make. As they make money, they can afford to lobby for mandatory sentencing, which then incarcerates more people, mostly the ones who don't have enough money for lawyers and bribes.

That is one hell of a system, and it means that those incarcerated lose time, their kids, their family life, their jobs, and their future earning power. The US system currently works on a kind of slavery; it's not far from the older form of slavery, frankly.
