Sen. Kerry spoke to Physicians for Human Rights on Monday about the work that's been done to combat global HIV/AIDS and the work still left to do.

He mentions his work on legislation that lead to PEPFAR

The second was the Kerry-Frist Global AIDS bill (S.15), formally known as the U.S. Leadership against HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria Act of 2002. This latter bill was the first coordinated effort by U.S. leadership to respond to the global AIDS pandemic.

and the Kerry-Smith legislation that will repeal the HIV travel ban.

Senators John Kerry (D-MA) and Gordon Smith (R-OR) secured a provision to repeal this ban in the Senate’s legislation to reauthorize PEPFAR, the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief.

PHR also honored Teddy. Check it out.

1. This was important legislation
And one of the few good things that the Bush Admin did.

Nice work all around.

2. Strange that one of the few positives that Bush can really claim - was really John Kerry's work
with Frist. Their bill passed the Senate by acclamation, but it didn't pass the House - President Bush's progam is a less generous version of Kerry/Frist.

(Ironically, Bush can also claim the first increase in CAFE standard in 2 decades - which happened because of a compromise negotiated by Kerry and Snowe.)
