This was the subject on some talk in a couple of threads this morning.

I don't quite agree with Mr. Ware in this instance, but we all respect his opinion and appreciate his honest reporting. He deserves to be heard.

Make no mistake about it Iraq's enemies are salivating over splitting the country up.

The Pentagon has been incredibily reluctant to build a real Iraqi Army and give then anything but total crap for equipment.

In one year an Iraqi Army could be built that could keep the vultures at bay if the Pentagon was willing to do it.

3. Vultures
Unfortunately, among the vultures who need to be kept at bay are the neoconservatives in the Pentagon.

This war was not about building a new Iraq, but scavenging from the carcass of the old one. Everybody knew that, especially rank and file Iraqis. They didn't trust the Americans (read: neoconservatives) and with good reason. Now the nation is defenseless.

I agree with Mr. Ware about the Iranians and al Qaida taking over. What I don't agree with is that there's anything the Americans (even us honest and well-intentioned ones) can do about it. Therefore, I believe our troops should leave.

I did not want to see this happen. That is why I was out protesting the war before the first missiles were fired over Baghdad. It was plain to me that the US would be greeted as colonialists, that the winners in any popular power struggle would be Shi'ites allied with Iran and that al Qaida would take the opportunity to make a mess of the place.

4. We have to wipe the slate clean.
No more lies about why we went there. Just please no more lies. We need help, this won't be solved militarily or by this administration. So the sooner we get this administration out of power, the better.
