7. Plenty of rumors exist that Benedict is gay.
And if your gaydar is working, look into his shoe collection and non-ritual wardrobe.

From what I've heard, the reason that B16 is so hard on teh gayz is that he's a closeted one himself. I mean, come on, have you SEEN his wardrobe?

26. You are or she is assuming a zero-sum game. Win-win is possible and common in real life.
I have money, but I'm hungry. They have a Happy Meal, but need money. We trade. They're happy because they got money. Obviously I'm happy, 'cause I got a Happy Meal.

Mutually beneficial trade enhances the wealth of both parties, and is the true basis of almost all business transactions. The losers are the competitors who got shut out of the mutually beneficial trading.

Life is a non-zero-sum game.

23. Salvation is personal
Bottom line, for those who are gay and those who aren't, everyone knows that homosexuality is sinful in the eyes of the Christian Church. It holds the same weight as murder, cheating on your taxes, surfing to internet porn, or stealing a Snickers Bar at the supermarket...hell.

I am a Christian, but I also believe in your rights of choice. I am pro-choice and I voted against California's Prop 8. I do think that life begins at conception and homosexuality is sinful, but as I stated earlier, you already know that Christians think this way.

I think and have always thought that if one makes the conscious DECISION to commit a sinful act, then first of all, they already know it is a sin. Second, they don't need me to tell them it is a sin. Third, even if there are laws forbidding it, it will still occur, only in a much more sinister way. Fourth, because abortion and homosexuality are personal choice sins, it in no way affects me and my life on this earth or puts my soul in jeopardy in any way, shape, or form. If you guys choose a lifestyle that has a pathway to what I believe is hell, then it is your problem, not mine. Journey well, friend, and may God have mercy.

If you choose Jesus, then you choose salvation. if you don't, it doesn't affect me. I may weep for you, but it still really doesn't affect me. I wish you all the best either way.

Regards,

A

25. There are parts of the Old Testament that just don't fit anymore.
And maybe those books should be removed from the collection recognized as Holy Scripture. There are parts that approve of slavery, treating women as property, stoning people to death for adultery (not just homosexuality), displacing and murdering people who live in the Promised Land, and murdering people who worship improperly, including close family members. Mark Twain's favorite Bible story--no, wait, Adam and Eve was his favorite, so this one is second favorite--is in Deuteronomy, Chapter 13. It says that if you hear of improper worship in one of your cities, you should kill everyone, burn the whole town, and even kill their cattle. Twain found the part about the cattle puzzling. You punish the cattle? Yeah, that's what it says. Stupid cattle.

What he found most amusing about the Adam and Eve story is that when God said, "Do not eat of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, or thou shalt surely die," Adam and Eve could not have understood what he meant. They didn't understand good and evil because they hadn't eaten the fruit of knowledge yet. And death hadn't entered the Garden of Eden yet, so they couldn't know what that meant either. My own favorite part is when the all-knowing, all-seeing God says, "Adam, where are you?" If you remind yourself God is all-powerful, all-knowing, all-seeing, and ever present as you read the Adam and Eve story, it takes on a whole deeper meaning.

30. illogical you are
"Salvation is personal" and "Christians think this way".

Okay with the first statement, but you directly contradict it with the second, you should reword it to "I think this way".

A later poster asks you to decide to be gay for a week, if you think it's just a personal decision. You clearly don't have a grasp of the possibilities of this reality; perhaps as a new poster on DU you can read a lot more and learn something, or, since you probably can't trust us, read the N.T. carefully and find that it's New-ness indicates the Old one is displaced. Just a thought.

34. true enough
I stand corrected to apologize; I did not mean to speak on behalf of anyone else or any other organization, religious or otherwise. My thoughts are my own.

I don't pretend to grasp the reality of other people's lifestyles, be they by choice or not. I won't further exacerbate that point by driveling about that which I don't understand.

As for your thought, I have read (most) of the New Testament and (some) of the Old Testament, and found the OT to be somewhat disturbing on several levels, while I found the NT very comfortable on most issues (that I've read so far.)

The only point I was trying to get to with my original reply was I find it unwarranted and distasteful for the Catholic Church (or any religious organization) to make public points about this topic. It only adds fuel to an already very volatile subject. The lifestyles of homosexuals are no more of my business then the lifestyles of the local bridge club. They are not for my judgment nor are they for the judgment of anyone or any group of oxygen breathing organisms here on this planet. This was meant to be the core of my statement.

I do trust the posters at DU, as I believe everyone is entitled to write about their opinions, and most do so with passion and earnest. However, I only will engage in the posts that bring a meaningful discussion to the table with logic and respect. Sure there will be those who disagree with my opinions, but let's try to do so with civility. Or at least let's agree to disagree.

Regards,

A

You dont speak for all of us. Quit pretending these are universally accepted beliefs held by anyone who claims to be a "Christian", because they are not.
