2. This is a major blunder for Obama.
We need someone diplomatic in that position. Hillary is far to hawkish.

4. And Rahm Emmanuel isn't? Hillary is far less of a "hawk" than she is pragmatic. Emmanuel is a hawk.
and it appears Obama wants to ramp up things in Afaginistan, and "get Bin Laden" per his BaBBa Walters interview. We need someone with "clout" and international "respect". Hillary has that.

10. No, Bill has the international "respect"
We need someone with diplomacy as Secretary of State. Hillary has demonstrated she is lacking in that.

16. No response on Emmanuel eh? And Hillary has a lot of international respect due to her work with the
international community of women throughout the world. She was the first to coin the term "women's rights are human rights" and the very first First Lady to speak out for women's rights everywhere.

6. Hillary appointment would violate the Constitution
Article One, Section Six of the U.S. Constitution states:

"No Senator or Representative shall, during the Time for which he was elected, be appointed to any civil Office under the Authority of the United States which shall have been created, or the Emoluments whereof shall have been increased during such time; and no Person holding any Office under the United States, shall be a Member of either House during his Continuance in Office."

You cannot take a job if the salary was increased during your current congressional term. The salary for cabinet officials has gone up in the past year. Even if it is lowered back down, Constitutional scholars say that may not be enough to fix the problem.

The question is whether this would be an issue at confirmation - if Clinton is nominated to the post - and who would raise it. Republicans could try to block her nomination with this argument. Senators may not vote for something scholars tell them is unconstitutional.

If Obama does makes the nomination, he violates the Constitution. As a professor that taught Constitutional law, he should know this. Bush's White House violated the Constitution several times, deliberately. So where is the change??

8. It's an awful stretch to interpret it that way.
This part of the Constitution intended to prevent a legislator from greedily voting on a raise for a position to which s/he intends to be appointed.

What was the SoS salary increase during Senator Clinton's term as Senator? Since she does not significantly benefit from the emolument, this is clearly not a case of the kind of corruption the Constitution intended to prevent.

With such an insignificant emolument, there is no reasonable basis for barring a qualified candidate for office.

9. Possible scenario
He appoints, Repubs organize to object, enough objections arouond Constitution arise, Obama
says " Gee, I tried, sorry, Hillary" and picks someone else.

7. Obama is making a big mistake.
Hillary SUPPORTED the war in Iraq and threatened to attack Iran if she were president.

I've got a bad feeling about this.
